Interesting pics. I should look for my old 35mm slide scanner and post some of my pics from when I went to Cuba in 1998. Unlike this disinterested European pornographer, I took a lot of photos of girls, lol! You didn't have any experiences with the jiniteras, Stefan?

Me and wifey probably will visit it one day, but our goal is to visit some of the salsa schools they have there / and there are a lot/ It's calm on streets as I see from here. People are poor, lack of freedom and civil rights, but still they smile and knows how to have fun.
People are eager to develop - they are entertaining, inventive and intelligent there - I've seen documentary about Cuba - the government recently allowed the people to have their own biz /to work for themselves/ but some of the professions allowed by the law /there's a list of approved professions - webmaster, webdesigner and porn king/queen are not among these/- saw a guy who used the opportunity to make biz - and made his house into restaurant, serving cheeseburgers. Their local brewed beer is indeed good, and the music is everywhere - from the club we go to dance our instructor told us stories about Cuba - La Havana and Santiago de Cuba.

Chef Bourdaine was there - and said they don't have cuisine /easy to explain why - lack of everything. Their economics is collapsing for decades but somehow is supported by the emigrants who are living in USA and sending money back to their families.

I see they are obeying the law - the presence of police is tangible, so you should not be afraid to get attacked by crazed drug thirsty junkie at 3:00 am - they lack of that kind of crime, but still there are swindlers, charlatans and other crooks who are there to get your money. You want to listen to "Sierra Maestra" music band - give us $20 and we will get you there. They indeed will bring you to a local "tavern" where some guys are playing - but these are not "they" - you might say. Nah - you're wrong - that's the band, they are changing all the time.

You can't get a whore in the hotel just like that. The police will come to check you and her. You should get a house outside and pay the fee to the house owner. The houses from the colonial era looks great and gives romantic emotion to the whole view, but the government does not grant money to restore them - it's part of the "system" they "despise". People often are living in collapsing buildings like these - it's "normal" to see a roof falling, while people are living inside. That leads us to the medical care, which is one of the best in world. It's free, the medics are experts and knows what they do. Castro was using those experts through the years to get products and foods from other countries /revolution friendly countries/ in exchange of medics.
The other good stuff in there are the arts - visiting a ballet performance is like 15 pesos to the locals and around $40 for the foreigners. The performance is on high level - since they've had teachers from the Russian ballet /one of the best in world/. The education is free and people are free to choose whatever profession they want to practice. Still the monthly payment for a doctor is like $25. No wonder that there are still people who are trying to escape.

That's what I know about Cuba - learned from friends and around.
Thanks for sharing your trip to there.

Some really nice places there. Of course it's mostly poor every where you look, but there are some very wealthy areas there and higher end accommodation. They are usually not places you luck into while walking around and are further away from the poor, often even sectioned off so the average Cuban can't enter. Some of the high class hookers in those areas even drive new cars if you can believe it.

Crime can happen anywhere in the world, at any time. That said, I've walked some of the poorest streets of Havana during all night long power black outs and never had a problem. Been in all sorts of places there that LOOKED scary, but were not. Generally speaking, Cuba is very safe because the police are harsh and do not fuck around. Cubans caught robbing tourists or making problems get locked up without a trial. I don't know how it is today, but a few years ago some Cubans could get jail time for just talking to a tourist if they were not permitted and licensed properly.

lol, let's say it this way: unlike my profession suggests, I try to be a good guy in my personal life and have a reason not to go wild on the ladies when I am away from home...

But there are of course many really pretty girls, especially when you don't discriminate on skin color. On the other hand I was a little disappointed, a high percentage of the girls is either quite chubby or pregnant - or both.

But they are for sure not shy

One of my buddies took a lot of pics of girls, once he puts them online I will post some here.

true, true...

should have taken a pic of the price sheet when we went to La Cabana - entry for Cubans was 8 MN (their local currency) and for foreigners 8 CUC (the convertible currency) which is 200 MN - 25 times more.

we went to "Casa de la Musica" - it would have been paradise for you

about 200 "amateur" hookers and we seemed to be almost the only foreign guys. They kicked the girls from the chairs to give us a table and then within the first 30-45 mins about 15 girls tried their luck on me - offering all kinds of services

Ain't cheap though - they asked for $100 plus $30 for the place plus $10 for the taxi

Damn, it looks like they got Stuck in time.

It looks like any city in the 50's... Crazy.

Any country that has the same Government since 50 years ago (Actually a dictatorship), is definitely fucked up and Cuba is fucked up. A Left-Wing Dictatorship.

Is Fidel still alive? Or he just a puppet?

The funny thing are the Cubans living in Miami. They are more "Right Wing" than the same Americans when they look at Cuba. That's very funny.

What happened to Elian Gonzalez? Remember that boy? I wonder what happened to him.

While there are nice areas to Detroit, the bad areas are much worse than those pix posted of run down Cuba. You can compare large sections of Detroit with bombed out buildings in Lebanon or alike. You drive through them, and are simply like..... wtf?!?!

I love the cars! I like some modern cars a lot, but cuba just looks like a giant antique car show to me. I read what you said about the state of the vehicles, but they do look good. I really want to visit sometime.

Of course, on the flip side - the hookers err...I mean, "models" are very cheap!

That's Democrats at work...not Democracy itself.

Detroit is like a petri dish for the policies of the Democrat party and what they lead to in the end after decades and decades of Democrat control in Detroit and of course their cronies: the big unions.

They've been in control there for longer than any of us have been alive. And you see what the end result is.

Ain't cheap though - they asked for $100 plus $30 for the place plus $10 for the taxi
Wow. That's like triple what the price was from the last time we were there. Hooker inflation.

Did you stay in a hotel or a casa particular?

some of those vintage cars in cuba are worth a fortune in the US, if you're lucking enough to find them.

In Havana we stayed at a private house. On of our group is from Cuba and while his parents live in Florida now, his aunt still lives in the family house and that's where we went.

could be but they are also worth a fortune to Cubans. you would have to be willing to pay about $30k if you wanted to buy one of those

no idea, i didnt touch a computer for 12 days. Internet you only get in cyber cafes or hotels. And VERY slow - like 64 kbit.

and some chicks...

those must be tourists who desperately still try to do something with their cellphones..

and then there was rum - a lot of rum...

Now city pics ( not from the same trip ), but when I went to Cayo Santa Maria . This city is REMEDIOS
Quote:
Remedios (San Juan de los Remedios) is a city and municipality located 3 miles (4.8 km) from the northern coast of Cuba, in the center of the island. It is part of the province of Villa Clara. It was declared a City by Isabel the Second, Queen of Spain, when the Island was still a colony. Remedios is the Cradle of the Parrandas, possibly the Caribbean's largest and oldest traditional festivity.

Remedios is located about 4 hours away by bus from Havana, around 50 minutes from Santa Clara and there is less than an hour from there to beach resorts in the Santa Maria - Las Brujas cays both situated north of the province.

My brother in law just returned from Cuba. He was really disappointed about it (poorness, lazy and importunate people, dirt, shitty food etc). This is a present he brought me from there:

how much do these cigars cost there? judging by the poorness it should cost pennies, but from what I heard it cost pretty decent amount.
