They do have a certain amount 'editorial' control over what ends up on Google Play Store - People take it for granted that Google have thoroughly vetted the apps - I know I am guilty of that myself...

Idea is that you should not give that many permissions to any apps.

I posted that because a lot of Android users are bashing iOS while the Android app is definitely asking for more then it needs to have access to.
