Let's face it, U2 is the most over-rated rock band in the history of rock. [proof inside]

I'm no fan of U2 either. All their songs sound the same. I was given free tickets to their show here in Montreal a few years ago. It was elaborate and interesting but... meh. Also their musical sound is so ... middle of the road. Sounds more like Muzak and less like Music.

this exactly descibes how i feel as well. Very boring music, nothing special. Only song that had 'it' from them was that batman one.
"Kiss me kill me" dont know what its called.

Agreeing with the boredom. Every time I hear a song by them I feel like I need to equalize with something excessively heavy.

They were good in the 80's, no one sounded like them. Once the 90's hit they were basically famous for being famous and their music was crap.

^^^^^^^^ This.
When was in college radio {1980}, I got their "Boy" album...noone had a clue who they were...it was pretty obvious that Island Records was on to something, and I played the hell out of them.

U2 were great until Zooropa. Basically 'Boy' to 'Achtung Baby'.

Everything since is more-or-less crap except one album, which is brilliant: "All That You Can't Leave Behind".

This band seems to able to produce the mainstream spirit of a music
I find that some songs are on the same topic....

compare:

quote of the lyrics: "Only to be with you"

with:

quote of the lyrics: "I will be with you again"
80's ebm/rock (depeche mode like)

Play 'Bad' immediately after Lou Reed's live version of 'Heroin' from Rock and Roll Animal.

U2 was playing at the Rose Bowl and got the whole crowd to be silent and then began slowly clapping his hands. He got the crowd to clap along for a while, the stadium quiet except for the rhythmic clapping...

After a short period Bono spoke, saying that every time he clapped his hands a child in Africa died ...

Some guy yelled out, "Well stop fucking doing it then!!"

And man, if you are ever in Dublin you are going to know everywhere U2 did anything; the Irish are quite proud of them.

I heard this story many times as a "joke" (not that it did not happen).
