Actually it was a NATO intervention and Libya has been engaged in conflict with Europe since Hannibal the Carthaginian battled Rome.

The USA is a latecomer since the Barbary War with the pirates of Tripoli (1801-1805).

Muammar Gaddafi was just a bit player and the new guys are just as bad it seems. If they just kept their murderous ways to themselves no one would get involved.

Libyan oil is a European "strategic" interest BTW.

Carthage - whats this ancient Africa? I have no clue what this means except that it came up in a horror movie once. The one starring that American dude in the museum and the monster evolved from some old artifact - funny movie it was.

Gaddafi had actually mellowed somewhat in his later years and he was at least predicable. Not so the new players in Libya.

Which all goes to show that you're usually better off with the devil you know.

Every conflict brings dead, that is something what you cant avoid. Also if i am not wrong this was the first time when someone else actually attacked roman empire, usually it was roman empire then who attack.
