Fuck! It's my least favorite day of the month!

Rig-building day.

Now accepting interns in Tampa, LOL!

Post pics of your mining rigs so we can inspire each other to slog through the constructing process when new machines come in.

I can completely appreciate that. I don't enjoy building rigs (it's something a monkey could do, and thus a human has little value to add), that's for sure.

That's a great idea. Is your guy in Tampa? I assemble a bunch every month.

Bitcoin (or in this case Shitcoin)

You use GPUs to solve a complex puzzle, if you're the lucky one to do this first then you win a block of virtual currency. This can be exchanged for other virtual currency, or cold hard cash.

With the 8 x 290s shown in the OP edgeprod could make (very roughly) about $70 worth of coins per day.

I'm also building today, although at a much lower scale. Trying out 4 x 270X in a sealed box with ports for fresh (outside) and exhaust air. No other cooling like A/C. Weather is going to be 26C today so it will be interesting to see the GPU temps and fan speeds. Then I just have to wait for a 45C+ day, we usually have a couple each summer...

Not a bad estimate of the daily hash rates of 290s. It fluctuates, of course -- a month ago, we hit a peak of $280 per day on eight 290s. This is the lowest it's been in a while, and it'll rebound.

If you only have 8 x 290's, though, I wouldn't get into mining. $70/day isn't worth the hassle.

Yeah!

One day I woke up and hated hardware. I figured that would change. Never did.

I have a couple of miners almost always pointed at DOGE pools, but it's been more profitable to simply buy it lately with the proceeds of mining other coins. I'm unlikely to mine that currency with more than 5 rigs at any one time anyway.

That pile of equipment was only $6k, and was paid for by profits from previous cryptocurrency mining and trading ... so it's all house money now!

I was mining an obscure coin that had some 'issues' but for some reason was being bought up at very high prices at one particular exchange. Some days I was making $100+ with only 2MH/s of hashing power.

The coin is pretty much dead now as a bug in the client has caused the network to stop minting PoW blocks. Enjoyed it while it lasted. (And it's not the only altcoin with that bug...)

Yeah, I'm in and out as the markets shift. I have a guy who keeps up with all of it and keeps my miners on the right pools for a percentage.

I guess that'd be true if I moved into the datacenter. But I'm in FL, so I wouldn't spend any money on heating anyway.

Edgeprod what is your break even date with all this stuff? Do you care to share information? I have information to share. I know I'm not a big timer in the world of mining yet but currently I'm doing about 1590gh/s for bitcoin mining.

The fact that BTC is so jumpy really kills my profit projections. I have half of that pictured above and at 1k/BTC it was a lot nicer then at $600/BTC.
