:stoned Selling Old Mining Rigs and Equipment?

I'm upgrading some of my R9 290 rigs to R9 290X rigs, and want to sell either the full mining rigs themselves, or the individual components. Does anyone have experience with the secondary market for mining rigs? I've just added newer ones instead of getting rid of the older ones, but it's creating data center space issues to have the R9 290 card rigs running (they're larger form-factors than my newer R9 290X setups).

Craigslist? eBay? Reddit? What do you guys use when you sell your mining rigs and equipment?

On a side note, anyone else pre-order the Titans? I'm excited to get mine, especially since they increased the specs to 250 Mh/s now!

Your best bet now is ebay. Rigs with 3 cards like yours are getting 1200 -1300 bucks.

Cool. Just tried Craigslist, got the assorted bunch of losers, but have some reasonable offers way above that, so it might be a local (FL) stupidity thing. I'm not going to try to get every last cent out of these -- time is money -- but I'd donate them out before I'd do $1,200.

5-card 290 rigs are going right now on reddit for $4,500 (actually selling, versus sitting there), so I may try there.

Buying 290X cards if anyone is selling -- Scrypt-N is really taking off nicely!

Damn 1200..... The cards alone are worth almost twice that.

And yet, he's not wrong. Panic-selling has driven people to accept silly values for their cards. It doesn't mean that's the market price, but it does mean that SOME people are willing to take that. Kind of silly, but to each his or her own.

Shit, I'm getting ready to upgrade and need to sell my scrypt miners. I'm not wanting to take a bath on them.
I got 5 top notch rack mount miners (1.8 mh/s) (XEON, raid, 32 GB RAM) with 2 290X in each and 4 miners (3.5 mh/s) (XEON, raid, 32 GB RAM) with 4 290X cards in each.

I used top of the line mother boards, SSD raid, 32GB MEM and XEON CPUs. They process huge work load at a time for greater rewards.

I've also got a bunch of Antminer S1 200 gh/s boxes for bitcoin mining that I'm selling.

Anybody in South Florida needs some I have them.

Lost? How would that even be possible? Or do you just not understand the mechanisms of trading? Volatility means profit, the selling price is irrelevant to me.

I'm always buying 290X cards -- shoot me an offer. Scrypt-N has been insanely profitable to mine, and I expect it to continue to be in the future. Why 32GB of RAM on those machines? Why Xeon processors? Both seem like unnecessary frivolity.

I use an R9 290 for Battlefield 4, and it works quite nicely! Of course, I also have it for PS4 and Xbox One, and have played none of the 3 for more than 10 minutes.

Check this out. I just bought this rig 5 days ago on ebay for $1200 + 75 shipping. I don't know how these guys are doing it. This is the second one I've bought because they are so cheap.

This listing is for a BRAND NEW, TESTED, Mining Rig.

This is a completely turnkey solution. Simply turn it on and it starts mining automatically. It uses the latest generation Sapphire R9 270X GPUs to achieve 1880+ kh/s. All parts are brand new and have only been running long enough to setup the rig and verify it's ability to remain stable. It's capable of mining any of the scrypt coins - Dogecoin (Doge), Litecoin (LTC), Fastcoin (FST), Worldcoin (WDC), etc... The OS included is Linux-based BAMT 1.3.

I currently have it configured with settings which have been tweaked for the best balance of speed & reliability. You could get more speed out of this rig, but I prefer lower power consumption and reliability over getting the very highest hash rate.

You get all of the following:

4 Sapphire R9 270X GPUs
MSI Z77A-G45 LGA 1155 motherboard
2 GB RAM
AMD CPU
Corsair HX850w 80+ Gold certified Power Supply
Custom built aluminum frame
4 GB USB drive running BAMT software. All of the software is already configured and ready to go.

These are the very latest generation of GPU's which run much quieter and faster than previous generation._

those cards are $200 each so $800 for the cards, then $475 for the rest sounds about right, the guy selling them isn't making a killing on the deal, but still probably at least $100 profit on each unit sold...

How do you like the 290X ? I have a 7950 @ 1050/1500 for gaming right now but I plan on selling my old i5 2500k and 7950 on Ebay so I can buy a Radeon 290 (non X) for gaming.

Not trying to be a dick, but those cards hash at half the speed of the 290s that I'm selling -- of course they're half the price. LOL.

Absolutely love them! Hashing around 1 Meg each, absolutely killing it on Scrypt-N.

Good question. Probably never. I think you have to have a pretty serious investment like Edgeprod to make money. I'm doing it for fun and to learn stuff. I do make money if you look at your investment and expense versus how much interest that money generates in a savings account. Otherwise it is probably more sensible to just purchase coins and trade them. If you are lucky and get in on a new coin that takes off you can make bank before the big guys come in, but that is rare.

Got to start somewhere! I did not know there were such differences with the chips. I thought an r9 270x was the same across the board.

These things generate too much heat to keep encased. A rig is open for better cooling.

What's the one to get then if you're going to get a R9 270x?

I'm not going to spend $800 on a 290x for a hobby.

Are there differences between the listed R9290X cards listed on ebay selling for high 3 low 4 hundred?

Dunno, I don't buy from there as a rule -- too easy to get screwed. Last experience was a half dozen cards, none of them worked. eBay and PayPal both refused to help. Awful, awful. The sellers know the game is stacked in their favor, so they can ship out used shit as new, broken shit as used, etc. That's also why I often don't sell there -- the inherent risk pulls the prices down, hurting legitimate sellers who aren't trying to rip someone off.

You take any opportunity to prove your ignorance. You just posted two pages of completely unrelated cards (some are non-reference cards, some probably can't even be flashed), and called mine "burnt out" despite knowing no history on them. You're comparing apples to oranges like you know your ass from a hole in the ground.

THEN, you seem to think that people here are stupid enough to buy-and-hold cryptocurrencies, instead of trading in and out to make a profit.

In both instances, it seems you're either stupid, delusional, or just trolling -- in any case, it looks foolish at best, desperate and jealous at worst.

you are now trying to unload them at premium price since you weren't able to find any suckers to rent out your useless rigs to: https://gfy.com/showthread.php?t=1134705

You have NO idea what you're talking about, and are clearly trolling. No one could be THIS stupid, truly. If you put HALF the energy into learning as you do into crying about being left behind (under the guise of the comments you make), you wouldn't be so jealous of those who didn't miss the trend.

Holy shit, I missed this the first time .. if you think those cards are the same as what I have .. just wow.

I'm sorry, but people PAY me to educate them on this stuff, so unless you're paying, school isn't in session.

I'm sure you are correct but I thought that cases actually kept machines cooler than having it open because it directs the air in and out as quickly as it can, creating a constant flow - like a river as opposed to a pond, if you see what I mean?

Actually with the ram and Xeon etc... the machines take a bigger bite of crypto and with an on board memory controller the work load is huge. = more coin

Those are not R9 290X cards, they are just R9 290s

Open with a huge fan has been the best way. When I say these thuings get hot, it's an understatement. Some cards run at almost 90c, I've kept mine under 81c

From what I understand of the proof of work involved with Scrypt, that is not the case. What are your hash rates per card? I'd venture to say that they are very near someone using a Sempron 145 and 2GB of RAM. You can likely save yourself a lot of money by not buying unnecessary components. Ask yourself: if everyone else is doing something one way, and I'm breaking that trend, is it because I figured out a better way, or because I'm wrong?

I run mine at 45% fan and 75C-80C, so that they can last for years without issues. In a datacenter, the environment is VERY different than at home -- the cold aisle / hot aisle cooling keeps my cards nice and chilly, the fans just move a bit of air across the surface components.

He doesn't even understand the difference between what he posted and the R9 290's in my rigs, how can you expect him to understand model numbers? There's a reason those who can do, and those who can't troll. It's a lost cause.

Some cards are good for gaming, some are good for mining .. if you don't know the difference (or why, and what to modify on the cards to make them perform and be maintainable), you'll just cost yourself money over time. Or, like that guy (I don't recall his name), you'll just sit on the sidelines thinking you know shit, haha.

Hot aisle / cold aisle is an excellent cooling method -- the de facto for most of the big boys here in FL. You obviously shouldn't be running these from your house, so no data center nowadays shouldn't be able to accommodate your needs.

Yikes, I just noticed what you're mounted on. Be VERY careful with static build-up. Aluminum is better all around, with static-dissipation properties being just one factor.

His implication (through his lack of understanding) was that the value of the currency somehow affected me or even mattered. As a market-maker, I make money regardless of whether the trade is up or down.
