Selling Old Mining Rigs and Equipment?
I'm upgrading some of my R9 290 rigs to R9 290X rigs, and want to sell either the full mining rigs themselves, or the individual components. Does anyone have experience with the secondary market for mining rigs? I've just added newer ones instead of getting rid of the older ones, but it's creating data center space issues to have the R9 290 card rigs running (they're larger form-factors than my newer R9 290X setups).
Craigslist? eBay? Reddit? What do you guys use when you sell your mining rigs and equipment? On a side note, anyone else pre-order the Titans? I'm excited to get mine, especially since they increased the specs to 250 Mh/s now! |

5-card 290 rigs are going right now on reddit for $4,500 (actually selling, versus sitting there), so I may try there. Buying 290X cards if anyone is selling -- Scrypt-N is really taking off nicely! |

Damn 1200..... The cards alone are worth almost twice that.

And yet, he's not wrong. Panic-selling has driven people to accept silly values for their cards. It doesn't mean that's the market price, but it does mean that SOME people are willing to take that. Kind of silly, but to each his or her own.

Shit, I'm getting ready to upgrade and need to sell my scrypt miners. I'm not wanting to take a bath on them.
I got 5 top notch rack mount miners (1.8 mh/s) (XEON, raid, 32 GB RAM) with 2 290X in each and 4 miners (3.5 mh/s) (XEON, raid, 32 GB RAM) with 4 290X cards in each. I used top of the line mother boards, SSD raid, 32GB MEM and XEON CPUs. They process huge work load at a time for greater rewards. I've also got a bunch of Antminer S1 200 gh/s boxes for bitcoin mining that I'm selling. Anybody in South Florida needs some I have them.

This listing is for a BRAND NEW, TESTED, Mining Rig. This is a completely turnkey solution. Simply turn it on and it starts mining automatically. It uses the latest generation Sapphire R9 270X GPUs to achieve 1880+ kh/s. All parts are brand new and have only been running long enough to setup the rig and verify it's ability to remain stable. It's capable of mining any of the scrypt coins - Dogecoin (Doge), Litecoin (LTC), Fastcoin (FST), Worldcoin (WDC), etc... The OS included is Linux-based BAMT 1.3. I currently have it configured with settings which have been tweaked for the best balance of speed & reliability. You could get more speed out of this rig, but I prefer lower power consumption and reliability over getting the very highest hash rate. You get all of the following: 4 Sapphire R9 270X GPUs MSI Z77A-G45 LGA 1155 motherboard 2 GB RAM AMD CPU Corsair HX850w 80+ Gold certified Power Supply Custom built aluminum frame 4 GB USB drive running BAMT software. All of the software is already configured and ready to go. These are the very latest generation of GPU's which run much quieter and faster than previous generation._

How do you like the 290X ? I have a 7950 @ 1050/1500 for gaming right now but I plan on selling my old i5 2500k and 7950 on Ebay so I can buy a Radeon 290 (non X) for gaming.

Because a case is just a computer case...and a rig is the actual setup...hardware forums and websites usually use the term rig and I always call my computer my gaming rig, why would I call it a case when it's not just a computer case?

Good question. Probably never. I think you have to have a pretty serious investment like Edgeprod to make money. I'm doing it for fun and to learn stuff. I do make money if you look at your investment and expense versus how much interest that money generates in a savings account. Otherwise it is probably more sensible to just purchase coins and trade them. If you are lucky and get in on a new coin that takes off you can make bank before the big guys come in, but that is rare.

Dunno, I don't buy from there as a rule -- too easy to get screwed. Last experience was a half dozen cards, none of them worked. eBay and PayPal both refused to help. Awful, awful. The sellers know the game is stacked in their favor, so they can ship out used shit as new, broken shit as used, etc. That's also why I often don't sell there -- the inherent risk pulls the prices down, hurting legitimate sellers who aren't trying to rip someone off.

THEN, you seem to think that people here are stupid enough to buy-and-hold cryptocurrencies, instead of trading in and out to make a profit. In both instances, it seems you're either stupid, delusional, or just trolling -- in any case, it looks foolish at best, desperate and jealous at worst. |

I'm sure you are correct but I thought that cases actually kept machines cooler than having it open because it directs the air in and out as quickly as it can, creating a constant flow - like a river as opposed to a pond, if you see what I mean?

Actually with the ram and Xeon etc... the machines take a bigger bite of crypto and with an on board memory controller the work load is huge. = more coin

Open with a huge fan has been the best way. When I say these thuings get hot, it's an understatement. Some cards run at almost 90c, I've kept mine under 81c

He doesn't even understand the difference between what he posted and the R9 290's in my rigs, how can you expect him to understand model numbers? There's a reason those who can do, and those who can't troll. It's a lost cause. |

Yeah, sad that he'd think that ... but you can't expect everyone to know that a TV isn't the same just because it's the same size, LOL .. or a car isn't the same just because they both have four wheels. Some cards are good for gaming, some are good for mining .. if you don't know the difference (or why, and what to modify on the cards to make them perform and be maintainable), you'll just cost yourself money over time. Or, like that guy (I don't recall his name), you'll just sit on the sidelines thinking you know shit, haha.
Hot aisle / cold aisle is an excellent cooling method -- the de facto for most of the big boys here in FL. You obviously shouldn't be running these from your house, so no data center nowadays shouldn't be able to accommodate your needs. |

His implication (through his lack of understanding) was that the value of the currency somehow affected me or even mattered. As a market-maker, I make money regardless of whether the trade is up or down.
