:stop Paypal EU to allow adult now (via Epoch)! Wow!

Possible game changer for EU sites?

Quote:
We are pleased to inform you that we are launching a pilot program with PayPal for our European-based merchants and their European customers. This represents a major enhancement to our industry-leading processing platform, which already offers merchants the ability to accept more than 35 international payment types and process in 59 currencies.

We are honored to have been chosen by PayPal, and are proud to offer this payment type to our clients. We agree with PayPal's approach to begin by offering this pilot exclusively in Europe, and we are in the process of rolling PayPal out to our European clients. As this is a European pilot, PayPal is not currently available to our US-based merchants. This means that during the PayPal pilot program, you will not see PayPal offered as a payment option for your websites.

We look forward to continuing to work with PayPal, and leading the industry in delivering quality payment options to our clients. PayPal falls under the category of an Additional Alternative Payment in our agreements.

Does Epoch still take the usual 14.5% off the top here, even for Paypal-only transactions? And still require the Visa & MC annual fees?

If so the only main difference at this point would be offering surfers a platform they're familiar with, so they don't have to release their CC information to the processor itself. Which may or may not be significant, my guess is it won't change much.

I should also note that PayPal's dispute resolution process is often a clusterfuck, so I wonder how that's going to work - who takes care of complaints/chargebacks/etc, them or Epoch?

Let me know when PayPal starts explicitly accepting adult without a 3rd party. At this point this sounds way better than it actually is...

Hopefully the usual industry scumbags don't ruin this for the rest of us......again.

Paypal if you reading this most of the fraud in the industry is done by people at the top and NOT the smaller merchants. Instead of doing exclusive deals or making people pay ridiculous fees upfront simply institute a fee schedule which increases exponentially as chargeback percentages rise and also have a policy making all accounts count towards the percentage. Do not let the scumbags do the shell company shuffle they typically do with Visa and the banks.

Thousands of adult merchants will gladly pay you 5% + $0.50 a transaction. Most run honest businesses. There is no need to force the use of middle men like Epoch.

I wouldn't be surprised if Epoch sabotages this just to help convince them to stay out of adult. Think about it. Compare Paypal's typical rates to Epoch's.

the rates will be the usual epoch fee, but to be able to offer customers paypal will be WELL worth it IMHO. Because we've fucked over customers for years with CC payments, offering something they know and trust will make all the difference. I just got a client approved for this and am very excited.

Go Epoch!

Old news:

https://gfy.com/showthread.php?t=1112343&page=3

By the way if you want to print "Paypal" only to countries that supports it, you can do something like this in php:

$epoch_paypal_countries = array('AD', 'AT', 'BE', 'CY', 'DK', 'FI', 'FR', 'DE', 'GI', 'LU', 'GR', 'GL', 'IE', 'IS', 'IM', 'IL', 'IT', 'LI', 'MT', 'MC', 'NL', 'NO', 'PT', 'RO', 'SM', 'SI', 'ES', 'SE', 'CH', 'TR', 'GB', 'VA');
$showpaypal = in_array($_SERVER[GEOIP_COUNTRY_CODE], $epoch_paypal_countries);

<? if ($showpaypal) { ?> PayPal click here <? } ?>

Note that Vatican shows paypal.

It'll be really interesting to see what difference the trust factor of Paypal will bring to conversion ratios over the next couple of months! Good stuff!

Yeah, basically this adds yet another middle-man into the transaction:
Customer-to-Bank-to-PayPal-to-Epoch-to-Webmaster.

Kind of ridiculous. Again, I don't see much benefit aside from PayPal being a familiar brand and you have to wonder if the additional red-tape and/or beauracratic snafus will be worth it.

Paypal will bring more sales for sure. Definitely worth it even if you have to pay the same % as CC. What is there to lose?

Well, potential for PayPal to change their minds and suddenly stop processing adult as they did many years ago - i.e. they've screwed us once already. One would have to hope Epoch extracted some sort of contractual guarantee on this, but my guess is PayPal's still got all the leverage. This scenario would be problematic to webmasters who've accumulated Paypal rebillers in the meantime as it was back in the day.

Hopefully they've also really hashed out a streamlined way to handle both buyer & seller disputes, because PayPal definitely has their own system for this. I could see conflict about that leading to the above.

Basically I don't see this as the slam-dunk win that many here do. Time will tell. But remember this is a company that left us in the cold before.

Harmik had told me it was an exclusive deal w/ Epoch so Paypal could test the waters in high risk(again). I am not aware that it has expanded to any other companies.

Paypal got a decent share in GER because of Ebay's popularity but still less then 50% of the market. It has basically nada in the Netherlands. If there are specific countries you're interested in payment options for I'm happy to explain what 2000Charge has for each country..

you must ask their AUP to review your website.
I have some approved ones, but since near one year I'm working with them to get reference transactions enabled, this seems to be really hard.

That makes sense UK is mostly credit cards so hooking up to a paypal account shouldnt be a stretch. Italy has no defined payments options so paypal might fill a gap there.
Thanks for the info.
