Downloading movie torrent
Does anyone in Canada still do this and is it still legal? This maybe a dumb question, but I haven't downloaded aside from ITunes in a while....

Its being tested right now with a case involving teksavvy. How that case plays out will probably determine the future of torrents in Canada and the potential for getting your ass sued off. Teksavvy was doing their best to not roll over on their clients but I havent really been following the case recently. I do know they made some changes to the penalties for personal copyright infringement, so you wont see any multi million dollar settlements against people for downloading a few songs like you used to see in the US.

I just googled the latest and it appears the courts are making it hard for any copyright trolling to take place. They arent allowing the offenders to be named, so this is going to prevent the shaming technique some pornographers were using, and the cap on any settlement is $5000, so its probably going to be quite hard for them to turn a profit, especially since they are making them pay for teksavvy's legal fees before any names are turned over. The court is also demanding oversight on any infringement letters sent to offenders, so they wont be able to scare anyone into settling up front anymore.

We trust that you will never complain about a tube site distributing your content then?
