So much for freedom to wear whatever you feel like. I'd love to see a law that states you have to wear certain attire in order to appear on television. While I don't agree with his choice of clothing, nor find it professional in the least, there is no law in existence that justifies that one can't "dress like a 15 year old" on television. The only leg his employer has to stand on is Casado's refusal to wear the clothing, which would fall under insubordination as the grounds for termination. However, I'm pretty sure if this was not designated work clothing that must be worn at all times while working, he can't be forced to wear it during a public appearance. Maybe I should go after that 45 year old at work going through a mid-life crisis, who just got his lip pierced and dresses like my son. I don't like his clothes, so I think he should be fired too...

You don't have the freedom to wear whatever you like at work or to represent a company however you wish and you certainly don't have the right to be late for work, be warned and keep doing the same.
I saw him in an interview and it was actually confusing because all you could think was "who is this idiot and why does he know so much about 777's" |

The article I read said he was fired for "shaming Canada" not for wearing plaid. I bet the guy would fire Ford if he could.

Funny, I thought plaid shirts like those were old peoples style, not teenagers.

Anyone who wears plaid... Should be fired on the spot.
Unless they are between the ages of 18-24, smoking hot, and it's a plaid school girl skirt.

Since when does "freedom" mean you can defy the attire and presentation standards of the company you work for? Let us remember: if you're an employee, your ass is at least partially owned. Since when does "no law in existence" not give the employer the right to decide if an employee is representing his company to the public properly? No law in the USA or Canada would ever exist to prevent the owner of the business from doing exactly what he did. He is entitled to do so. And just because there is "no law in existence" that states you have to wear a certain attire, that doesn't mean there isn't also "no law in existence" that denies an employer the right to determine who is fit to represent--and work for--the company, provided no discrimination is involved. Sorry, but his employer has a whole shit ton of legs to stand on. You might be outraged at this treatment, but to invoke laws shows you haven't a clue. However, I agree that his clothing wasn't professional. Martin Savage's CNN article on Mitchell made me like and respect the guy more ( http://edition.cnn.com/2014/03/31/wo...asado-profile/ ) . . . but ultimately, his casual style was so jarring to see at the controls of a 777 that for me, it actually diverted my attention from the video broadcasts of him and Martin that I saw. He was going on worldwide television. He should have dressed more professionally. I hope he gets a better job now though. Based on Martin's story, it seems like he always dreamed of being a pilot, worked his ass off to get there, and is very good at what he does. Let this be a "teachable moment" for him as he moves on to bigger and better things.

"shaming canada"?? WTF
Since when is working for a company shaming an entire nation? Where does that line of thought come from? Primitive. |

What's the problem!
1. Employer has a dress code 2. He was warned before about not dressing to company code 3. CNN pays to use his company's simulator which means he's on company time. Once again he doesn't wear what the company requires him to wear Maybe the instructors should join a union! |

I know he was in a simulator and agree he wouldn't have looked appropriate in "full Captains uniform, but I didn't suggest that. I said he should just looked professional. Khakis and a button down dress shirt would have met that, even a polo. And oh, yes, it was a sackable offense because . . . his employer decided it was. And that's the only thing that matters. I wouldn't have and it doesn't sound like you would have. But employer's call.

Actually the boss should have been standing right there as they were filming. He should have picked out his employees uniform long before CNN arrived if he was so concerned about the company image.

Agree that the boss comes off looking like a douchebag too, with his quoted comments like that he shamed all Canadians . . . what a tool. If I ever decide to pay $150/hr to get in a 777 simulator, I'll be sure and not do it at his company, ufly.
