I think I have about 20000 dogecoins in an account somewhere. Probably worth about 5 cents.

Hey, I have chickencoins. You can breed those buy buying chickens and feeding those, etc. They will make the eggs, and you can buy those eggs with 1000 USD per piece, payment to me of course. This is very sure thing and very stable currency, as chickens can do only so much eggs per day. Hop in now and you will be chickeneers by the end of the month.

Price crashes, as we all predicted. The money is made in the swings, not in the holding right now. Longer term, who knows .. but the current picture is of buy/sell as often as possible. I use bots, personally.

I used to do well with arbitrage at vircurex because they used to permit directly trading between all coins, without being limited to trading only with LTC/BTC/DOGE etc. So when everything lined up you could do (say) a circular trade such BTC->USD->DVC->BTC and make an immediate profit. The big advantage of this was that the bot did not speculate; it only traded when it saw an opportunity, and any trades would be completed within seconds, so most of the time it won.
No more of that now, Virc now only lets you trade between alts and major coins. |

I wouldn't be surprised if a lot of the big ops my bot found were due to fat fingers.
I discovered the other day, to my unpleasant surprise, that on bter.com that even though you're apparently "buying ALT" it will actually fill orders to the equivalent BTC amount. You're effectively buying (selected price * 5000) rather than buying 5000 ALT exactly. Doesn't matter most of the time, but if you mess up and put in a price that doesn't have enough decimals (eg 0.0001 instead of 0.00001), rather than the exchange buying the specified 5000 ALT at best price, you'll end up buying 50000+ ALT. edit: or put 5000 into the price box, rather than the amount box. You could easily wipe out your entire balance. |

Like everything else, you cash easy money when the thing is new, and no more later when everyone figured out.
By the way check below, sort by the volume 24h, see the altcoins day trading is a joke amount except btc, ltc: http://coinmarketcap.com/currencies/views/all/ Also look the % change 7 days, it's all red, darkcoin -57%. Now the only growing past 7 days is bitsharesX +23% (daily 156k) and gameleaguecoin + 450% (daily $61k): http://coinmarketcap.com/currencies/bitshares-x/ http://coinmarketcap.com/currencies/gameleaguecoin/ Not much else happening, or I am missing something?

Specs and price? These are GPU, right? I'm always buying ASICs also, but only the Titans, or similar specs. I can show you how to monetize them for free, if you prefer.

If I could sell all of my GPU stuff, I would -- it's profitable, but fortunes aren't being made off of it. The money has been made in GPU, and we're on to ASICs. It was a great run for a while there, but at ~$10/day per machine, it's just not worth doing GPU if you have to put any effort at all into it (I don't do very much, I worked out my systems years ago).

edgeprod, I presume you're using your GPUs for something more current than scrypt? I shut down my GPU rig a couple of months ago because I haven't bothered to look into newer things like X11. scrypt is barely even profitable with ASICs now.
Pity, cos it took a while to get everything working well. I did end up using ducting to draw in fresh (filtered) air via the floor, and exhaust it into the roof. |

The price of ASICs has fallen dramatically, but because the value of alts has too the ASICs remain mostly unprofitable. I did some quick calcs the other day, and a new 12MH/s miner "on special" would take over 2 years to make back its purchase price.
