I'll say this as someone who has forgotten more about firing guns than most people could remember. I know it's easy to say this from behind a keyboard...but would it be so hard for a cop to shoot a guy's leg to disable him? If you're going to be scared little bitches firing an entire clip into the chest of a guy who looks like he might be about to scratch his nose, then couldn't you at least aim a little lower?

Humanity requires authority. I know, I know, that goes against your (and mine too) Libertarian doctrine that people should be responsible for their own words, actions, deeds and selves. But I'm enough of a realist to understand that that will never happen, too large a number of my fellow humans just cannot accept that responsibility for self, cannot even understand the concept. I do not believe that "cops are acting like "Gods" on the street with no regard for the law." in your words. I do believe that you and damn near ever other person who watches the "news" believe that to be true, but that is the job of the Media, to convince you that you are in eminent danger. Remember... conflict, controversy, death, destruction and real or perceived inequality keep eyes on the TV screen. Which explains why we are seeing so much of in our lives. For the Media companies it's just good business to keep us in fear. And the flames will continue to be fanned as long as there is profit in it. |

I think we need cops and authority too.
But somewhere between the "old days" when I was younger and police didn't have all these powers to just search you, etc. and NOW when they have been given almost unlimited power thanks to the Supreme Court rulings and the "War On Drugs"...something has gone terribly wrong. I know that in 1984 when I was pulled over for a speeding ticket I would ask the cop questions and even argue with them about getting pulled over. Fast forward 30 years to 2014 and the cop will tell you to "shut up" and then search your car and tell you and your wife to stand 20 feet apart and not speak while they pilfer through your car, her purse, and your pockets checking out your personal belongings and making you feel like you were just raped. And the whole time you have to smile and THANK the motherfucker for doing that to you. I'd like to slap the shit out of him instead. But you make one false move, and your ass can get shot dead. That's not the way it's supposed to be. |

I think it's because the police knew they were being recorded. If you know you are being watched, you will MOSTLY behave.

"Serve and protect"? Is that serving and protecting? They are playing "gotcha" so the city can make more money and they can keep their jobs. Hell, here in Vegas...the cops no longer respond to traffic accidents. Google it up if you don't believe me. There's just no money in that. But there seems to be a traffic cop on every other corner handing out tickets to soccer moms in their minivans to collect revenue. |

Why shouldn't they?
Aren't the traffic cops theoretically in existence to "serve and protect" motorists? Of course they are. Even traffic speed limits were originally designed to make things safer. Here in Vegas, the city is laid out really nicely because it's not that old. Almost every street in Vegas (talking about the entire valley, not just the small congested strip) is at least 4 to 6 lanes wide. And there MIGHT be 4 or 5 cars at a time on all these residential streets. And because of the extreme summer heat and winter cold...there isn't a lot of foot traffic (it's the desert). So why do they make all these streets (which would have been highways back where I lived in S.C.) 35 mph? And then it seems like there are more cops than actual motorists. lol I think it's the local govt. blatantly TELLING us that the cops are not there to serve us. Our taxes are being used to pay for cops to try and "catch" us so we have to pay fines to the city and higher rates to the insurance companies. And when we actually NEED them (a car wreck)....they don't have the time to respond. You can make comments from where you're at baddog. But when you LIVE here and you see a fender bender happen and two people standing by the road scratching their heads...and then you see a motorcycle cop a half mile down the road pulling over a woman with her kids for doing 45 in a 35 on a huge 4 lane empty street...well, it shows me that the priorities are way off. |

Police Commissioner baddog is that you? A couple of weeks ago during the Gaza crisis you were a Rabbi, today a cop. Nice to see you are so versatile in your careers.

Too many seem to think their badge means 'open season' on the racially profiled. These rotten lies about invisible bushes & sandwich-guns make them look ridiculously racist. They must not be used to being questioned on these shootings, or they'd be better at lying.

And the police change their version of what happened for the 3rd time
Video footage from inside and outside a mini market shows the victim buying a sandwich moments before getting shot, not wearing a hoodie as implied by police earlier, and the clerk suggests the teen didn't have a weapon on him. DailyKos news updated
