What to pay a VERY GOOD Media Buyer?
I've been working with a media buyer for the past year, and this guy is VERY FUCKING GOOD. After some tuning, he's gotten my campaigns humming very smoothly. I'm always making more than I'm paying the guy, and that's the bar I measure media buyers by. Lots of pretenders in this industry, but this guy backs it up.
So, my question is, what do you guys pay your media buyers to keep them engaged? I don't have any illusions about this guy working only for me, but what types of things have you guys done to keep them on top of your account and interested in keeping things rolling? |

base salary + commission based on performance of campaigns? Seems like with a decent commission it would be an incentive to keep striving to improve campaigns (if theres something in it for him personally) ;]

Commission is something I'm exploring with him. Right now, it's priced on volume transacted, in dollars.

In the absence of other ideas, I'll just be blunt and ask him what it takes.

Or you could ask him what it takes as you said. If he offers too low...... say you will think about it.
Then meet with him and say that "We felt you were asking too little considering what you've demonstrated you can do, so we are think we should offer you a higher rate". Shows him that you've given a lot of thought behind what you're proposing as well as have understood his capabilities. People like that can expand your business in ways you didn't even think of - in those cases, I also rather pay more and secure them in place. |

I actually had my first exposure to adult buying ads for telephone dating services in the mid 90s.
The main sales guy got a percentage of sales generated for the territory he covered. He said that long term, it was the best option. He had NYC and Boston in his area, so that made sense I'm sure. Small base plus commission and bonuses. |

Most of my clients pay me commission based on ROI or a percentage of profits generated.

Anybody worth their salt should want commission. They will be bale to earn more than anyone will pay in salary.
If they are doing real number for you...say over 300k+ in media buys monthly...Id think 100k + 10% of the net PROFITS they generate Also, Any good media buyer who can constantly make profits will realize very quickly they could be doing it for themselves and will bail, unless they are well taken care of |

Keep him interested with new clients. It's what he wants anyway.

Depends on where they live.
Generally I would say 60 - 75k base and 5 - 10% of profits from media buys.

I'm not looking to hire him exclusively ... that rate is for part-time, right? And do you do 10% on the profits, or on the volume? He was pricing it on volume for me.

Part time maybe a monthly base of 2k - 3k. Always work on profit. If they arent buying quality traffic they are not getting paid.

You have to pay whatever the higher payouts are for that type of offer. Otherwise, just a few links need to be switched for the one who will.
Anyone that is "very good" knows what the leads or joins are worth and knows what others are being paid or are paying for them. |

They likely only get paid once for their leads, and don't secondarily monetize them like I do ... so their campaigns might not be profitable without that technology. Not trying to be a jerk, just adding perspective. If they could do it without me, they probably would, yes ... but I don't suspect they can.

Ha, maybe, but if I recommend someone who has more work for them, that may be counterproductive, no?
