My all time favorite Robin Williams movie...
The Birdcage... Robin Williams and Nathan Lane, Gene Hackman, and Hank Azaria as Agador...

I never would've thought Robin would kill himself. Crazy shit.
I wonder what his good buddy Billy Crystal is feeling about all this.

The Angriest Man in Brooklyn - when I watched it I somehow sensed that he is angry/sad not only in a movie. Even if not, it is some interesting coincidence that he was suffering from depression and that his last role was kind of along those lines.

I was more a fan of his 80's stand up, but the ones that stick out most for me are: Good Morning Vietnam, Moscow on the Hudson, and the one my wife can't make it through without crying, What Dreams May Come. I'll also throw in the movie Jumanji too, he was great in it.

I loved so many of his movies - he was always in such unique and varied roles... but a couple of my very top favorites were Patch Adams and The World According to Garp - those I watched more than just about any of them - My kids always loved Mrs Doubtfire and I had to watch that one at least 900 times. lol

That wasn't his last role. We'll see him at least 4 more times over the next year.

Good Morning Vietnam is one of my favorite movies... I got to meet the real Adrian Cronaeur.
In college I DJed at WVAU, the student radio station at AU where Cronaeur DJed before going off to Vietnam in the early 60s. I got to meet Cronaeur my freshman year at the station. Williams played him way over the top. Interestingly Cronaeur and Williams never met before the movie was made. Barry Levinson the film's director knew Cronaeur at AU when they were both students there... |

Ironically, his wife in that movie committed suicide. |

I liked his comedic roles, but he also did some darker roles that showed a different facet of his acting abilities...

Both Good Will Hunting and What Dreams May Come are my favorites.
I'll be watching them both again shortly. He was such a talented, versatile man - almost impossible to imagine he was both Mork from Ork - and then later played the shrink in Good Will Hunting...total opposite ends of the spectrum. |

Hardly anybody mentions Moscow on the Hudson, he was great in it and the film was kind of important sociologically and politically. He played a Russian circus performer or musician who defected to the USA on a tour. This used to happen regularly back during the Cold War, and took huge balls. The scene where he visits his first American supermarket and he's overwhelmed by the quantity and variety of things on the shelves, he has a panic attack. I'd heard the story before from Soviets who defected.
I wasn't a big fan of his standup comedy and neither were other standup comics, he 'borrowed' lots of material. He acknowledged it himself, saying it was never intentional, his mind was like a sponge taking in everything. He was a great comedic and dramatic actor.
