That's a big (and expensive) fireball!

No, that rocket was made in the USA. However it was equipped with old Soviet engines (made in... the Soviet Ukraine) which were in the warehouse since... early 70s

That's not a joke, BTW.

Let me rephrase. The engines were made in the Soviet Union.

However, I seriously question why we are using Soviet engines, no less why we are using engines from the 1970s.

Just watched it on the news there.

Didn't sound too good for NASA the fact the Russian one which launched from Kazakhstan made the trip no problems...Ah well.

It's not Nasa's fault. Funding to Nasa was cut a long time ago. Bad for nasa, but good for private companies like Space-X which are taking up the slack.

They were made in Soviet Ukrainian Republic more than 40 years ago. Note: not designed, but physically made. These engines were never used on Soviet rockets. They were a part of cancelled Soviet maned Moon landing project. Neither Soviet Union nor Russia has produced them for the real rockets. The USA just bought all that old rusty junk from Soviet warehouses. I really don't understand those idiots who decided to use that shit on their modern rockets. Guys, design your own rocket engines already and stop using the 40+ year old Soviet technology which is was decommissioned by Russia a long time ago.

Nope, they do. 5371 rockets were launched to the space by the Earth humanity (441 failed) and 2800 of 5371 were launched by Soviet Union/Russia.

"NASA is disappointed that Orbital Sciences' third contracted resupply mission to the International Space Station was not successful."

So this was a privatized mission.
