How many times have you been fucked over?

How many times in this business have you been screwed out of a check, or wire, or western union, or paypal?

How many times have sponsors either cheated you, or forgot to send a check, or just decided not to pay you?

Me... 3 times, i recovered one two years later when the person decided to do business with me again, & didn't realize who i was. They had screwed me out of $450 in 00', & in 2002 they contracted me to do some work, wired me the money & i just sat on it :) (I requested exactly $450 for the job)

Sweet justice...thankfully i no longer have non-payment issue's & its been nearly a year since the last problem, thanks to some solid sponsors & relationships.

Nydahl 01-13-2003 12:40 PM

2 times - fraud CC

machineg 01-13-2003 12:41 PM

just once..
:Graucho
wont happen again

ColKurtz 01-13-2003 12:42 PM

ive been pretty lucky that way, just sticking to big reputable sponsors.

a long time ago (98) I tried babenet, and it was so unbelievably shitty, that I didnt want to send any more traffic to it. But they wouldnt give me my money because it was like 40 dollars, and they said you had to make 50 to get paid.

The only time I ever got a bounced check was from, I forget their name. But I sent a threatening email, got a new check, and never sent them another click.

Rich 01-13-2003 01:12 PM

Too many times to count, usually CC chargebacks on gambling losses. Also, the cyberthrill casino, banneranswers.com, rush4gold.com, and a couple other fly by night programs would owe me combined about $4000. Maybe firstname.com too, I can't remember why I didn't get paid for the clicks I sent. That one was a click through program and it may have been a productivity thing, I can't really remember.

mrthumbs 01-13-2003 01:14 PM

paypal fucked me over personally + over the yearsnumerous chargebacks and creditcard issues from 'members' and 'clients'.

reddawg 01-13-2003 01:19 PM

A few times, but the good people out way the scumbags that think it's o.k. to fuck someone elses day / or more so up and over.

But there are liars and cheaters out there and we just got to keep moving forward.

ColKurtz 01-13-2003 01:54 PM

" That's not you being fucked over, that's you not reading the tos. "

I read the tos, but I wanted the account closed. Any half way reputable sponsor would have paid the money.

Dveron 01-13-2003 01:58 PM

2 times since 98, not bad. Once by All Clicks and once by some click prog Brad Shaw used to run, can't even remember the name.

PatrickM 01-13-2003 02:00 PM

Only once.

A plugin provider were charging my card twice although i canceled their feeds.

Any half way reputable webmaster would've forgotten about the $40, and stuck by the TOS. Why waste there time over $40.

Babenet is a more than reputable sponsor, don't say they aren't when they did nothing wrong whatsoever.

kenny 01-13-2003 02:01 PM

One time, and it was only for $100. I guess they needed it more then me if they where willing to rip someone off a lousey C-Note

Honeyslut 01-13-2003 02:01 PM

Are you trying to say allclicks.com ripped you off? No, not 12clicks, he's the most trustworthy person on the face of the earth.

Twice and for fairly small amounts (ie < $300). The second time was even finally more or less resolved thanks to some major bitching on GFY, the only thing I never got were the bank charges :) First time was simply the original ezgreen but then so was everyone at the time who used them :)

TOM

ColKurtz 01-13-2003 02:08 PM

I don't care if its 40 dollars or 40 cents, the right thing to do would have been to pay me for the signups I generated and close out the account.

Marcus 01-13-2003 02:33 PM

2 times but it was only $100 each time
1 from a "site promoter" and another from an avs designer.
still I'll use them as tax deductions : )

I always start at a low price when I'm doing business with someone new and I buy more as we work together longer and I've established some trust with them.

skazzel 01-13-2003 02:42 PM

Twice, both by the same company (doh!) - dumb, I know, but I was ~15 at the time.

Due 01-13-2003 02:42 PM

around 4-5 times or so..... amounts between $1.5K to $5K per time :BangBang: :BangBang:

brutus 01-13-2003 02:44 PM

Three times - and the latest was nice sponsor from Florida owing me about $800.

Too many times, once from a content provider ( i was warned cause it sounded too good to be true) for 50% recurring. I set up a deal for like $2K a month, I got paid once. They kept the content for like 6 months, FINALLY cancelled, and now i'm waiting on another one who should have paid me by now. ugh

FlyingIguana 01-13-2003 03:03 PM

lets see

hollywood whores didn't send a cheque. they were like the second sponsor i used.

dildo lesbians bounced a cheque. they added some money to my next cheque, but it didn't cover the amount that bounced.

traffic cash cancelled my account when i asked them where my two cheque's were.

back in 98 there was a company that was matching ad buyers and sellers, they didn't pay. think a few people got ripped off in that scam.

altogether i've been stiffed like 400 bux or so. overal thats not too bad. very small % of my overal revenue.

ravyn 01-13-2003 03:07 PM

just once, by a casino company down in costa rica. they owe me about $1000 which i don't expect that i'm ever going to see. hell, i have a friend who moved down there to work as a programmer, and he even told me that there's not much chance that they're going to pay me unless i do _more_ work for them.

they can go fuck themselves.

maxjohan 01-13-2003 03:32 PM

Only once, and it was like a year ago with badsponsor.net..I have tried to contact support a hundred times, no answar.

In the last 18 months 6 times... balances still owing:

$1000
$2300
$3500
$1500
$1000
$250

These straight people suck a big dick.

Brad

Interlude 01-13-2003 04:04 PM

Owed about $3000 by a certain processing company that I anticipate won't be around for long.

Any clues on why they have a minimum in the TOS? Business is business, play by the rules instead of crying over fucking $40.

Shitty, what are those for?

Pornkings 01-13-2003 04:30 PM

been burned by many traffic brokers selling traffic per click

first they send there good traffic on a trial, then when you bump the deal up they send all there forced exit traffic or hit bot.

this is why many sponsors focused more on CPA then CPC the past 2 years

:2 cents:

Rilose 01-13-2003 04:34 PM

once... LIQUID BY DESIGN fucked me in the ass !!! $4500.00

I remember amaterpages.com used to send exits to firstname.com ... which seemed a little unrelated...

Scootermuze 01-13-2003 04:38 PM

Got stiffed a few years back with IEG wirhn they were bouncin checks all over the place.. They sent me a replacement check and said they included $50 extra for the inconvenience and any bank fees incurred... It bounced too.. :)

Then I got one for $300 from them and it was good.. that was the end of that link on my site..

Stealthy 01-13-2003 04:40 PM

I wouldn't say I've necessarily been fucked over per se, but I have been made promises and offers by people on this board who obviously had no intention of following through. Just big talkers I guess. Oh well, it will take me a lot longer to get where I want to be as a photographer, but I'm just going to do it myself. If that means taking a job or two outside this industry to fund my model shoots, then that's what I'll do. Right now my financial situation is dire indeed, but I have no interest in opening up my own pay sites or anything, I just want to be a photographer.

That's the way I should have looked at it right from the get go, but I thought that a certain someone wanted to help me. One would think that they wouldn't have offered otherwise, but I guess I was mistaken. No big deal, but I will have a very hard time trusting anyone in this business again.

Yeah yeah, I know, "Quit Whining." "Life's a bitch" "You can't count on anyone but yourself" and all that, but put yourself in my situation. If you were pretty much broke but you had a camera, your own lighting equipment and models available to you, but no startup capital, and someone were to offer to loan you some money to do some shoots, what would you do? Yeah, me too. That's where I made my mistake.

Paul Markham 01-13-2003 04:42 PM

I guess if you count the number of times my stuff was scanned out of a mag and posted it has to be in the hundreds if not thousands.

But as for being scammed off the content site never. CC go through Paypal and at this level they are :thumbsup and and two charge backs in a year. One tried to buy two weeks later told her :321GFY The other sent a check to cover the ammount, cos he cancelled the card thinking it had been stolen.

So far nothing but :) :) for you guys. But I will be bet someone has ignored our license.

wtf is the STF business?

quiet 01-13-2003 04:46 PM

- interbill (an old processor) 3rd party billing going belly up in 97
- galaxy-net hosting imploding in 98
- got fucked over on a live feeds purchase in 98 as well

FlyingIguana 01-13-2003 04:46 PM

rich the reason why is because they want to sit on the money and also try to get more traffic while the webmaster tries to get the minimum.

if the guy doesn't want to send more traffic they should pay him what he made.

there's absolutely no reason why they can't close the account and cut a cheque.

Brad Mitchell 01-13-2003 04:47 PM

in this order...

loan to a friend in the biz
stolen from by a former business partner
screwed on tv commercial ad placement
fucked on some ram I bought using pricewatch.com
bought per click traffic from someone never took delivery
content from MagicMan

Brad

some_idiot 01-13-2003 04:50 PM

So far I think once... I keep getting strung along and
I'm now 4 pay periods behind. I've dropped the traffic
to just enough each period to get a check. Even though
he still emails me asking which periods he owes.

...I fear I'm off to small claims court next month with TG
for their pay per click program.:(
