The Low Spark of High Heeled Boys.

Please correct me if I am wrong, and sorry for sounding like Markham, but does creativity like this still exist in modern music ?

Well, short answer is no.

The reason music was this good in the early 70s was due to the fallout from the Beatles. The Beatles raised the bar so damn high. Songwriters and musicians were working under the philosophy of "we've got to try to make music at least as good as the Beatles, if not better." This resulted in the incredible music from that era, from not only Traffic but many, many bands. This bar slowly diminished over time, to the point we're at now, where the bar is essentially laying on the ground.

But in defense of modern music, Justin Beiber can say "baby baby baby", for what that's worth.

Media time was scarce back then...to get it you had to be good...it cost money to print records...now there's YouTube and social media and everybody is an "artist" and kids are dumb shits...there is no filter any more...

I love that song ... still true today 40+ years after it was written -- Steve Winwood and Traffic :) Classic by Jim Capaldi and Steve Winwood.

I don't mind modern music ...

I was at a friend's house the other day and he was playing something that sounded like really, really bad prog rock... turns out it was Radiohead. I'm not a big fan of prog rock, but it seems to me that Yes were doing what Radiohead are doing but 30 years earlier, and better.

It was more than that. By the time the Beatles turned from a pop band into a rock/psychedelic/progressive band there were a few already there. Remember Hendrix, Cream, Pink Floyd, Jethro Tull, The Mothers of Invention, etc. And then there were these bands doing the same thing.

Traffic was one of my favourites, saw them twice live.

My all-time favourite can still sing it word for word.
