A U.S. aircraft has shot down a Syrian government jet over northern Syria, Pentagon says

A U.S. strike aircraft shot down a Syrian government fighter jet shortly after it bombed U.S.-backed Syrian fighters in North Syria, the Pentagon said in a statement Sunday.

The Pentagon said the shoot-down came hours after Syrian government-backed forces attacked U.S.-backed fighters, known as the Syrian Democratic Forces, in the village of Ja?Din. As the attack unfolded, the U.S. military used a deconfliction channel to communicate with the Syrian government to stop the skirmish, according to the Pentagon statement.

U.S.-led jets stopped the fighting by flying close to the ground and at low-speed in what is called a ?show of force,? the Pentagon said.

Roughly two hours later, despite the called-for stand down and the U.S. presence overhead, a Syrian Su-22 jet attacked the Syrian Democratic Forces, dropping an unknown number of munitions on the U.S.-backed force. A U.S. F/A-18 promptly shot the Syrian aircraft down ?in accordance with rules of engagement and in collective self-defense of coalition partnered forces,? the Pentagon statement said.

Su-22 (aka Su-17M)? I'm surprised. Didn't know someone still uses those stone-age dinosaurs...

You consider that that old Syrian fighter jet was 'cannon fodder' perhaps?

Iran’s Revolutionary Guard said it fired a number of missiles at Islamic State targets in Syria in response to recent attacks in Tehran, the semi-official Tasnim news agency reported.

“A number of mid-range surface-to-surface missiles” were launched from bases in Iran’s western border provinces of Kermanshah and Kurdistan, delivering “fatal and crushing blows” to targets in Syria’s eastern Deir Ezzor area, according to a statement from the IRGC’s office of public affairs, published by Tasnim.

They were using it to drop bombs.. Syria's other methods to drop bombs includes filling barrels with TNT and shoving them out of helicopters.. They aren't very technologically advanced...

btw about 15 years ago, I pulled up in my driveway (lived near a airport) and one of those flew right over my house on approach to land. I jumped back in my car and ran over to the commercial side of the airport to check it out. Turns out the guy who owned it, had 2 old era Migs like that and he was testing using some sort of powder to seed Hurricane clouds as a way to lower the strength of them.

He used the migs to fly out to the storms and would release these little canisters of powered stuff into them. Not sure what the idea was behind it, but I assume it didn't work out lol.

What will the Russians say?

Barry-xlovecam 06-19-2017 03:17 AM

Direct from the horses mouth;

Quote:

"We call on the United State and all others who have their forces or advisors on the ground [in Syria] to ensure the coordination in our work. Zones of de-escalation are one of the possible options to jointly move forward. We call on everyone to avoid unilateral moves, respect Syrian sovereignty and join our common work which is agreed with the Syrian Arab Republic's government," the Russian foreign minister said

Whole lot of nothing in that :2 cents:

There is no such "international war". It is not illegal for one government to attack another government.

One ща my schoolmate is also loves to collect planes. He is a professional сivilian pilot. The dude buys planes (usually in Canada and the US) and transports them to a hangar near his house in Saint Peretsburg. Some people have real strange hobbies :upsidedow

Why not? It's a war.

Now Syria has cut communication with the US military, and will consider all US planes and drones hostile. Wonderful.

I am not saying it is legal, but there is no law that makes war illegal. There is no law that says one country cannot make war with another country. They can surely try to sue the US for this - they lost an airplane - and they would most likely win.

When your country hands crimea back to Ukraine we will then give a fuck what you guys think about aggression toward sovereign nations who are bombing their own people and violating international law. Until then go fuck yourself.

Yes, why not? We are at war against Ukraine, the States are at war against Syria. What's a problem with that?

They said that now all the US aircrafts over Syria will be considered as air targets for their air defense systems (they have S-400 SA-21 Growler systems deployed in the region).

Source: The Ministry of Defense will consider all the US airplanes over Syria "air targets"

Something interesting is going to happen :upsidedow

The closest one of these is in about 5 min from my home:

FYI: when 3rd-party countries involved (e.g. Russia), these are not civilian wars. They are the international ones. Both in Syria and on Ukraine.

We in Syria for make war against terrorists, not against USA, idiot!
If "sky incident prevention interactions with US" as i writed ahead not work, we will find something else.

Barry-xlovecam 06-19-2017 04:11 PM

I doubt that the Russians nor the Americans would risk a war over their proxy armies. But Russia has drawn their red line of a anything that flies "target zone" to the west of the Euphrates river and smack down the middle of Raqqa -- not very smart.

The Russians just de facto ceded a part of Syria away from Assad to an occupying army and local rebels -- that is really not smart.

Foreign armies fighting in Syria was always a bad idea. Should have dug a backfire trench and let the fire burn out to conclusion. :2 cents:
