Diet soda triples cause stroke & dementia compared to normal cola daily habit

Diet soft drinks might not actually be better for you, as a recent study finds drinkers face a higher risk of stroke and dementia just for the taste of the real thing.

A team of scientists from Boston University School of Medicine studied nearly 4,400 adults and found those who consume one artificially-sweetened beverage (ASB) a day have three times the risk of stroke and dementia than those who consume sugar sweetened beverages (SSB), according to a study published Thursday in the American Heart Association's journal Stroke.

The study used data provided by the Framingham Heart Study, which had the participants fill out a detailed questionnaire on their food and drink intake in the 1990s. Ten years later, scientists found that the adults who had one more diet drink a day were 2.9 times more likely to develop dementia and three times more at risk of strokes compared to those who consumed less than one a week

That's because if you drink normal coke, diabetes kills you before you get dementia.

The only thing I drink is Ice Mountain "100% natural spring water" without fluoride.

I used to drink loads of coke as a kid, but when I was 16 I got glandular fever badly, was in hospital for a few weeks, couldn't swallow, so was just on drips.

And after that seems my taste changed, first thing I wanted when I could drink was a cold glass bottle of coke... but it tasted like shit. (waiting for CS as I said shit)

Seems like being ill did me a favour in the long run.

I don't even get angry at this bullshit anymore. It takes a pretty dumb person to get their diet tips from headline news in general.

The actual cause of increased cases of dementia is the advent of low fat diets. People who drink diet soda are trying to make changes and often choose foods with low fat, instead of low sugar which is far more harmful. When you eat a low fat diet your organ function deteriorates and one of the side effects from that is arterial blockages and overall damage. If you are lucky enough to avoid a stroke or a heart attack it can still be enough to cause brain injuries resulting in a number of diseases.

eat an avocado, some nuts or seeds every day and you protect yourself from a lot of that.
