If you think we are friends and then you change hosts not to MojoHost...

..then you're dead to me. I've been too nice for too long and don't have space for people that drink others Kool Aid because they don't listen. If you don't trust me, you're a fickle friend and its your loss in the end. For all of those who are happy with your current host, as I have always said, stay there. For everyone else that patronizes MojoHost thank you for your your business and voting with your dollars.

Sincerely,

Brad

So um, is there a story behind this?

You never asked for my business, but you got it anyways. Who needs to be your friend when Scooter is giving reach arounds to new customers.

jimmycooper 05-25-2012 02:21 PM

What's with the avatar? Is the chin-on-fist profile pic making a comeback?

What's the back story here? Did a friend/customer move away, get burned and now expects you to fix their problem that wouldn't have happened if they just listened to you?

PornoMonster 05-25-2012 02:28 PM

I wouldn't take it personally. It's business. Maybe there is a good reason they won't use you such as they want unmanaged hosting or they need something which you can't offer them.

Brad Mitchell 05-25-2012 02:30 PM

I'm always happy to take customers back, everyone is human, this is not that scenario. We do plenty of unmanaged hosting and I wouldn't have my feathers ruffled if it was for service that is outside of our core competencies.

Business and friends don't mix. The day your customer becomes your friend is the day he stops being a customer.

Relentless 05-25-2012 02:37 PM

Every former customer is a potential future customer.

That's not how I read it. I read it as a friend stopped being a customer but still wants Brad to bail them out because they are supposedly still friends.

I can probably think of a hundred real-life examples where there is simply not true. That's like saying love and business don't mix when I know some amazing business partners that are also life partners. It really comes down to the people involved that don't know where to draw lines.

That would be an interesting scenario. "Hi Brad, I know we moved to Brand X, but they can not figure out how to install this library. Will you do it for me?"

Apparently I'm not getting the same service from Scooter as you are. lol

First off, I would like to say I love Brad and MOJO. He has always been most helpful and available at any time I needed to ask him some questions when I started in the hosting business. When I have seen him at conferences, he has always been friendly. He is a professional, diplomatic, and a good front man. I believe they set a 'gold standard' when it comes to managed web hosting.

That being said, I read it as follows. Whether personal, or professional, you should not make posts like this on GFY. I can understand being burned by your pal, as I know I have been as well in the past. However, I did not make a post about it.

Perhaps Brad needs to vent. It sounds like there was a friendship and BRO drinks.

To me it always seems the opposite.

If you are friends with someone, doing business as a secondary relationship is a terrible idea. It almost never works, somebody gets burned, and you end up hating each other.

If you are doing business together first and then become friends, there seems to be a better disconnect of sorts. Business stays at the front of the relationship. Or maybe this scenario means you aren't really friends?

No clue. At the end of the day, when it comes to both business and personal lives, most people try to do what is best for themselves. Blind loyalty is not a very common trait. Sometimes what people think is the best decision is the worst and they just don't see it.

That is how I took Brad's post. Did you read it the same?

If that's the case, I don't see how Brad is the bad guy. If the friend requests help with hosting as a friend but ex-customer, that is wrong.

He's not saying move away and he'll never go to dinner with you again. Just that if you move away don't expect hosting help as that is no longer part of the overall dual relationship.

Brad

I looked at your site in the past and I didn't see that you offered unmanaged. I may have missed it but chances are that I'm not the only one. Hopefully this feedback helps. I've got nothing against you personally and think you'd probably be better off relaxing a bit and taking the weekend off. You don't seem your usual "chill" self. :)

True enough. Webair has a couple responsible for answering support tickets.

It does sound like one party had more faith in the friendship than the other. It's impossible to say which person had more faith.

I think we've all posted things on GFY that later on didn't seem like such a good idea.

To be honest... Brad is normally so lax that Im glad hes blowing off a little tension. Everyone needs to.

I say stop speculating and just give him some room to pace and mutter aloud.

Agreed. I think it's time for a new painted shirt, or a trip on the MOJO yacht for weekend.

Indeed. It is simply out of character for Brad.

Which is why it is probably surprising many in the thread.

That's why I think people should give him slack though. Imagine what must have transpired for him to post this thread. He's not one to over react or be attracted to drama.

Or he drank a lot at lunch. ;-)

He gets a pass from me.

If I ever change hosts it will be to Mojo.

But at my current host they have an oldest account contest and I only have to wait for two more guys to die before I get a free month.

I would never be friends with anyone who asks if we are... Just saying.

Biz is bis, find another...

Sharky 05-25-2012 03:13 PM

Am I the only one that read it as...

"If we are friends and you currently host with Hosting Company A, but have decided to move to another company that IS NOT Mojohost..."

I am happy with my host quadranet.com
And i stay there.

Spudstr 05-25-2012 03:21 PM

i read this as.. someone asking brad for help/input on something and then they leave their old host to goto another provider.. that isn't mojo.... probably due to pricing.

happens all the time.. and reasons why we simply won't help people unless they are our customer.

I have full faith in ongoing business and support with MojoHost regardless of what Brad vents...

I do have hosting elsewhere but the majority resides in Mojo and for as far as I know, it will remain there for years to come.
