Hey Sly, got a question. Please

I was wondering about your voice recognition software. I know it serves you well for things like posting on GFY, but can you do blogging on a large scale or is the vocabulary pretty limited?

TIA

I'm sure there's touch typing software that will pay off in productivity far more than futzing around with voice dictation, training, etcetera. Don't you think? I know you can speak faster than anyone can type, but figure in any corrections and your advantage is gone, and probably reversed.

I was one of the lone guys in typing class many years ago and I've always appreciated 90wpm+ as a real boon to my work output/convenience.

I have a network of over 600 domain-based sites, most of which I have built by writing HTML and creating my own templates. In short, there is nothing you can do that I can't (and I can probably do it faster), so long as it doesn't involve a mouse. Anything mouse related (like graphics) I am pretty slow at, but I have other technology that allows me to use a mouse fairly quickly, I'm just not steady enough to do graphics well.

I can also add my own vocabulary. You can create macros (you need a higher-level version to do this.) The list goes on and on.

If it's for you, give it a try, it's only $50. I am betting that you will not like it though. Most people that don't need it, don't like it.

If it's for a friend or family member that has trouble typing, buy it for them. If they are stubborn (like my cousin) it won't do them much good, but if they have any patience at all and want to get running on a computer, this is how you do it.

The software learns your voice and dictation patterns. After using the program long enough, corrections become less and less of an issue. If you work with the program, it works with you.

Thank you.

You know you want to speak some blog posts for something radical like tranny midget fisting while anyone who might respect you is within earshot.

I can see it now, neighbor cuts through yard to get to street, walks by your window and hears "then tom grabbed sally's dick.." "I said. TOM GRABBED SALLY'S DICK!" "DAMMIT! Stupid thing.. I saiiiid TOM GRABBED SALLY'S DICK!!!!!"

I used it for a bit just to mess around with it a few years back but it became pretty annoying hearing everyone laughing across the house hearing me hollar out cuckold terms heh

hrmm.. interesting...

ottopottomouse 05-03-2012 03:49 AM

Does it need the room to be in complete silence or can it cope with background noise?

Mutt 05-03-2012 03:59 AM

it's amazing - Sly 'types' faster than almost anybody i know on ICQ and perfect spelling - makes me wonder why more people don't use that software.

and i was always wondering how you do that and never thought of this...

I use the same thing, with the bluetooth headset that I bought and never used for my iphone. It works extremely well and doesnt take long to train it to your voice.

I have noticed that people will look at you funny when you are talking to them and say the punctuation that you get used to saying with Dragon.

A noise canceling mic is all you need. I use a first-generation jawbone bluetooth headset.

I almost always have music playing.

The software will adjust, you just need to work with it.

i don't think i speak faster than i can type.. You'd have to be pretty jacked up on caffeine to keep up with someone who can type fast.

I used Dragon back about 10+ years ago (might have even been the late 90's), mostly for the novelty factor (and plain old curiosity) but it was super buggy/glitchy and a total resource hog..

I type pretty fast so there was really no need for me to use it and I just moved on...

I am guessing 10+ years probably makes a big difference in technology.. (between software improvements and hardware now being able to keep up) ;)

I still wouldn't use it, but for people with physical limitations or limited typing skills, even the buggy version 10 years ago probably would have been beneficial to them.

Diomed 05-03-2012 07:54 AM

Maybe I've got my head in the sand,

but does Sly have some sort of physical condition that I'm unaware of?

Or is it just using Dragon for the convenience of the thing?

On average a person speaks ~ 150 wpm.
I'm not aware of anyone able to type that fast, and certainly not the average.

Maybe you are one of those really slow talking people from the south? :)

fuzebox 05-03-2012 10:08 AM

I hear Sly can type 125wpm because he has 6 fingers on his left hand.

I type with my penis. Good exercise and makes typing faster!

smartest thing is macros in combination with speech recognition. I use it with programming.
