215,835 .XXX domains

ICM Registry says it currently has 215,835 .XXX domains under its management.

Of those .XXX domains, 132,859 are adult-oriented sites and 82,976 are non-adult defensive registrations, domains of celebrities and sensitive uses and those ICM Registry reserved for future uses.

"It is over our forecast," Lawley told XBIZ. "Our earlier forecasts submitted to ICANN showed 125,000 registered names at the end of five years and we achieves that in three months."

ICM Registry this week released the most current registration numbers as the monthly ICANN registry report showed for the first time .XXX numbers. Those tallied number represent the month of December when .XXX went live.

The ICANN registry report, shows that 106,549 domain names were scooped up in ICM Registry's first month of operation. That number does not include defensive registrations.

GoDaddy.com registered the most .XXX domains in December (24,850), followed by NetworkSolutions.com (14,045) and Instra.com (3,873).

I've barely noticed anyone using .xxx domains. Unless it's made mandatory it has no added value beyond a .info domain to me. And you can get .info domains for $2.

Babaganoosh 04-06-2012 08:48 PM

I thought you stopped posting.

You're a weak-willed liar.

What's the cost of a .xxx domain? $100 is a tiny cost for a business.

What will determine is the number of people who pay again and at $100 I don't think it will be a tiny number, not any growth.

$21,583,500 in the first year turn over. Assuming all went for an average $100 which is an assumption only a few know for sure. How much of this goes towards costs of getting the domain extension, on going cost and to the resellers?

(24,850), followed by NetworkSolutions.com (14,045) and Instra.com (3,873). = 42,768 via resellers. Nice earner for them because they didn't bear the costs of setting it up.

Only time will tell if this is a stayer or dies.

PornHustler 04-07-2012 12:25 AM

I have yet to see a single .xxx domain ranking for any search I have ever done.....

Damage control by the ICMR. Dotxxx is a disaster so they pretend everything is ok.

I'm sorry but if you own domains that are not worth $100 a year to you. That's your problem.

As the .xxx isn't much use. I advise those who can't afford $100 not to buy one. If your business model is buying 10s or 100s of domains. The cost of business for .xxx got got expensive. so don't buy them, they're not likely to make money in the long run. IMO

Let's assume .xxx hangs around a few years. Those who think it's clever to buy a few dozen and renew them each year are funding the possibility of them lasting, while gambling they will be of use in 2-4 years down the line. So as an example

Said Domain broker has 30 .xxx domains @ $100 a year for 4 years. = $12,000 on a gamble paid to the ass holes who came up with this scheme.

He may end up with worthless paper, he might end up with a healthy profit. If he can't afford to lose the money, it's his problem.

If he's bought the domains to work them, $100 is peanuts.

So having x000 domains, that each have a mini site on autopilot on them and each bring in between $50 and $100 a year and each cost $10 a year (reg fee and hosting) to maintain, as "a reserve pool" now suddenly is a "problem"?

DWB 04-07-2012 05:25 AM

Yet only a handful are even live.

MrCain 04-07-2012 05:38 AM

Fuck .xxx and fuck icm.

KingNigel 04-07-2012 05:39 AM

If .xxx is such a big success then why are several registrars spamming their users with huge discounts on .xxx domain registrations?

What's the weather like in the world you live in. Here in the real world it's a bit overcast. You should come see us folk who live in the real world sometimes. :1orglaugh

So to those who are living in the real world with a brain. Will realise that it doesn't effect those with a 1,000s of .com making $100 bucks a year on .com costing $10 bucks a year. So u-bob is living in an alternative universe where the .com domain will cost $100 a year and will have a problem. :1orglaugh

No I think you are.

Anyone with x000 domains costing $100 and only making $50 to $100 does have a problem. He's an idiot.

Those with x000 domains costing $10 a year and bringing in $50 to $100 a year, doesn't have a problem.

You see the way you wrote it I assumed you lived in some alternative universe where .xxx was now forced onto all porn sites.

Because this is what I think you meant to say. Just not able to articulate it.

However if he's forced into buying $100 domains and transferring all his sites to them, will suddenly have a "problem"?
Is that what you meant to say?

HandballJim 04-07-2012 07:40 AM

I have a dozen, but will most likely renew 4. I do have 1 live and traffic is slow to the domain. I like the extension for 1 word domains.

Wasn't there a promise from ICM that they would promote our .xxx websites to generate traffic?

It would be interesting to know what Frank Schilling's take on the whole .xxx situation is;
