:stop Amazon lays off hundreds of employees

Winning!!!

Amazon is cutting several hundred jobs in Seattle, and hundreds elsewhere, a rare layoff that appears to fall predominantly on its established consumer retail business. The company continues to hire aggressively in other areas.

This is routine for a large company. This has nothing to do with the economy.

Ontario just lost 59,000 part time jobs since the introduction of the $14 minimum wage on January 1. That's the single biggest one month job loss in Canadian history.

I guess it would hit some countries and businesses when wages are first increased, at those low rates many would carry dead beat staff. However if you look at Aus with a higher min wage, eventually it all evens out again:

McDonald's Australian sales to hit $5b

The US-listed burger chain recently reported a 3.5 per cent rise in sales for the third quarter, compared with 1.3 per cent growth in same-store sales in its home market.

Minimum wage in Australia is $23 but closer to $25 once extras are added. ( 17 ½% annual leave loading, 9.5% retirement fund )

6202.0 - Labour Force, Australia, Sep 2017

Unemployment rate : 5.5%

"The company continues to hire aggressively in other areas."

What are you guys all discussing? Did no one notice this sentence out of the total of three sentences in the OP? This is a complete non-story. They let go of a tiny number, while they are hiring big numbers in other sectors of the company.

Seriously, what are you guys arguing about?
