High school rape culture finally exposed

Did you go to a high school where 'scrubs' (freshmen) get hazed? Maybe you got toilet paper thrown at you or you were paddled or paraded and humiliated as part of 'breaking in the new guys'?

Well, you had it easy. A Texas town high school allegedly turned a blind eye to long running rape ... brushing it off as mere hazing https://www.thedailybeast.com/high-s...lawsuit-claims

At our local high school they throw pennies at Freshmen on the first day of school.

I guess it depends on how fast they were throwing the coins... Softball lobs, maybe. Coins thrown by a budding Aroldis Chapman? Not so much....

And you then wonder why there are so many school shootings...I am surprised that the victims did not open up a can of murder and go on a hunting trip to school LOL

If and when I have a kid(s), home school is the only option. Why would I send my kids to a place full of potential freaks pedos and weirdos? Including the teachers. There are other ways to socialize kids without exposing them to peer pressure and scumbags.

Hell no.

Our neighbor's kids were home schooled. It was very odd. They came over to play with my kid but instead ended up talking to us and helping us make dinner. They didn't know what it was like to "play" and was unable to have a conversation with a kid their age.

Also, home schooled kids miss out on everything else that public school includes. Homecoming, Prom, football games.... Yeah, I know what they will say - "Oh, home school kids still do those things". It's not the same. One of our friends home school their kids. The oldest son is a senior and decided not to go to prom. He only knows a handful of kids at the school. At the end of Senior year they show up and graduate with hundreds of kids they don't know.

I guess it depends on how you do it. I was home schooled for the last 4 years of high school. But have already accumulated friends from before. I think the high school years are the most damaging for certain teens. Also depends on the kid. Though if the parents are overly strict weirdos (recent news story comes to mind), probably not good for the kids either.

many kids missed all of that stuff that were not home schooled, and speaking at an adult level isn't something I would consider a disadvantage.

I know a couple sending their girl to catholic school, and I know it's because they're afraid of their little girl being in a non-homogeneous environment. Sheltering a child is no way to teach him/her how to get along in the real world because there's going to be all kinds of people out there....black, white, brown, gay, straight, disabled, nice people, assholes, etc. May as well be immersed at an early age instead of learning the harsh truth as an adult.

It really is about how it is done. I have a friend who is hyper-religious and he and his wife homeschooled their oldest daughter until high school when she convinced them to let her go to a "real" school. She was so far behind because mom and dad did a shitty job of teaching her that she had to take a bunch of extra classes and go to summer school just to get caught up. On the other hand, I know another couple who are part of a homeschool group. Different parents teach different subjects and there are numerous kids involved so they get to socialize, make friends, and deal with the dynamics of being around others. Their kids are smart, well-adjusted and both got accepted into college.

Do people actually wonder why? I've always been shocked there aren't more. School sucks for a lot of people.

you could also protect them by not ignoring them. Far more effective and don't have to quit your job to do it...
