If Richard Nixon Was President Today
If Richard Nixon was President today, and Watergate happened, would he skate or would he still resign?
I say he gets away with it and faces zero consequences. Thoughts?

Nixon was more of a man than Trump on his worst day.
Majority rules in the end and the majority voted Democrat for president and the majority is getting sick and tired of the lying orange monkey and his lying FoxNews clowns and we're going to fuck shit up sooner than later be warned |

However if he were a Democrat he could get away with murder. |

There has never been a more liberal "Republican" President. Total opposite of Bush. And Nixon? He wasn't all that conservative...he just seemed that way because he was dealing with REAL liberals (the hippy anti-war and anti-govt movement) in the country. But Trump isn't a "conservative" at all. Just listen to what the Republicans themselves said about him during the primaries. In fact, Trump stands for many things that the Democrats stood for...until now. |

No he wouldn't resign today. In those days, the media had a lot of credibility. There were only a few outlets from which everyone got their news, and they could be swayed to a single cause.
Today with news outlets aligned by team, Nixon would have had cheerleaders and would have stuck it out. He would have been impeached perhaps but not removed, a la Clinton. |

Nixon should never have been president.
He conducted a treasonous campaign of collusion with a foreign power in order to influence an election and become president........he won the election with only 1% more votes. Lyndon Johnson new about Nixons treachery and could have destroyed his campaign, but he failed to act because they all thought Nixon would not win. Vietnam would have been over in 68.

in 1972 Richard Nixon defeated Democratic Senator George McGovern of South Dakota. ... Nixon won the election in a landslide, taking 60.7% of the popular vote and carrying 49 states, and he was the first Republican to sweep the South. He was a quaker I think - ever met one of them? I have. |

The Republicans play the same tactics over and over and no one ever catches on. It would be hilarious if it wasn't so sad. (And yes, Democrats do their own version of rinse/repeat too.) Quote:

Of the 1968 Presidential Election Wikipedia says: "Nixon won a plurality of the popular vote by a narrow margin, but won by a large margin in the Electoral College, carrying most states outside of the Northeast." So again I say: sounds familiar. LOL

20% of Republicans still supported Nixon the day he stepped down, that's how completely stupid and brainless they are.

Johnson knew that Nixon had struck a deal with the South Vietnamese leadership to wreak the peace talks by offering them better terms when he became president. Actually, I'd give Trump a slight edge here, and say Nixon might be worse than Trump. Google what was just came out recently about the Vietnam war and Nixon. It's sickening. How Nixon Prolonged The Vietnam War, And Why He Did It
Agreed. I don't understand why Ford let him off the hook though. Quote:

Don't get me wrong - I know that you like some of the things that Trump has said and done so far. My question is kind of, Did you, a republican, vote for a person who is not a republican? When I see Trump, I don't see a republican at all. I don't know what I see, but I don't think I see republican. Quote:

That's the Electoral College, not the popular vote. He barely won the popular vote (and probably because the majority of Baby Boomers could not vote yet in 1968).

I'm not now and never was a "Republican" Mark.
I was a registered Democrat until 2012, then I switched to Libertarian after a lifetime of lies from Republicans & Democrats. I think Trump saved this country from the bureaucratic establishment and I hope he can keep it up. It's scary to me to realize that a 71 year old Trump is up there all alone fighting the power of the establishment Republicans, Democrats, and the media. The guy is a hero in my book. |
