I'm not one for destruction of history myself. However in the specific cases of the civil war statues those, for the most part, were in fact erected during the jim crow law era and were used specifically as racial intimidation at the time. Maybe placing them within a civil war museum specifically would be a far more appropriate solution though.

No, and I completely disagree. It CAN underpin SOME societies, but I don't think it's a requirement anymore. Any good society would and should allow anyone to believe what they want, yes, but to base a society on any religion based on old stories and unprovable events, and to lock society into rules based on that nothingness, and expect it to grow, probably wouldn't work out to well.
