Introducing The Open Internet Preservation Act
Whew. That was fast.
The same week the FCC killed net neutrality, they are working on a new bill.... Quote:
That's just the first step. At some point ISPs will begin throttling your account because you are watching Netflix or whatever, and you will have to pay extra for a "high bandwidth" package.

I can't find the article that I read earlier.. said that the FCC are going to move to reclassify mobile devices as broadband internet. Not cool, but what a way to skew the real numbers.

There is a town about an hour for me that has co-op internet. The prices are good. They have 300mb up and down for $40/mo and 1gigabit up and down for $60. It's owned by the people of the city and operates as a non-profit service for the people of the town. If things get ugly with other ISPs I have a feeling we will start seeing more of this.

I love the way they name these despicable laws something very to sound like something very benign and wonderful. Like naming an aggressive Pitbull "Sunshine". They're so dumb because they think they're fooling everyone with the cute name they come up with for their shitty law.
Or maybe they're master comedians making a joke at us as the final knife twist.

Don’t we already pay the phone bill like they want to do the internet? I don’t see this as a big deal at all.

Anything could happen. This isn't a fix for a lack of net neutrality, but it's a good option if individual ISPs start charging more or restricting access.

Just a hypothetical. What if all ISPs in the US blocked porn and users had to pay them $40 per month for them to unblock it? If you think selling porn to people is hard now, imagine how it will be when they already are paying every month just to be able to surf the sites.

No worries - soon they will be removing the regulations on phone companies too. Eventually your "unlimited" plan will require a "speed upgrade" for $10 a month so you can stream video.

..or, removing these shackles allows ISPs to start growing again, and maybe actually help us serve 4k video to the masses, or block the massive daily hoardes of hackers. ISP tech stopped growing when this policy was put into place.
think bigger and you'll see the other side of the coin. i built an adult portal for a mobile provider in South Africa. that's a closed system, seeing as how customers need to pay to get on the network. the portal had 1 million uniques its 1st full month in operation. they sell an access subscription about every 37 seconds. IMO FWIW = fighting about politics is a waste of time and energy. you can't change anything. you are just putting yourself into an early grave. watch the policy changes and figure out how to make money. otherwise you will be bitching and broke until you can't type anymore. #porncms

Realistically though there will be no noticeable changes for either customers or website owners, just think back how the internet was all along till few years ago when "net neutrality" was passed, so I don't see any reason why there would be any major changes now.

Why shouldn't the heavy users pay more?

Hi Brad, I have a question for you on all of this. How does the new ruling affect you? I mean, will your costs for anything go up? Does it make you more flexible, or does it tie your hands? Any ideas on what it does for sites with content on ISP's in both the US and other countries like Canada or Britain?

If the prices rise too much, switch it off. That will kill any excessive rate hike.
