My hometown is awesome

I live in a small(ish) town in Northern California.... We had a fund raiser tonight collecting turkeys for those who cannot afford them.

The fundraiser started at 2pm, and by 4am they collected 300 turkeys. Our goal this year was six hundred turkeys....

This is the first truck - there is a much larger one standing by. I went at 2pm and it was crowded; At 6pm tonight it was packed.

Nice.

Offtopic: how can you eat a turkey meat (I know it's a traditional meal in the US)? It smells so nasty... We have the only family member who likes it. That's our cat. Actually turkey is the only type of raw meat in his ration besides special cat food of course.

My wife's family is Italian so... For Christmas we eat lasagna.

Turkey smells bad? Once it's cooked it smells great.

It has some kind of sweet smell, which I don't like. You don't feel it because you have grown on it. In Soviet Union it was almost impossible to find a turkey meat and we ate mostly chicken and sometimes duck (to be honest, I don't like it either). Now you can buy anything you want, but once you're used to eat chicken, you will continue eat chicken. The only other type of bird meat I can eat is quail. For example, I prefer quail eggs over chicken eggs. The quail eggs much smaller, but they taste better to me and I like to eat them raw, also I use them for omelette and to make pickled eggs.

As I already said above. My cat is another case. He eats turkey only, and only the breast part of it. A cat of my son loves pasta and... tofu. So this is all about the food you have grown with.

P.S. As about charity, so course it's cool that you guys do it.

Turkey doesn't smell. Don't really see it in Spain, but from what I remember of it, it didn't smell.

I used to work in a butchers when I was at school, so used to have to gut around 500 every year. Their guts stink if you burst them, but if you pull them out as one. No smell.

Every kind meat has a specific smell. There is no meat that don't smell at all. You may just like that smell or not. For example, a lot of people I know don't like the smell of mutton and prefer pork meat over it. Personally I just like mutton shashlik and I'm absolutely ok with it's specific smell.

The only meat that has minimum smell for humans is a pork meat. Do you know why?

BTW, why you say you don't see turkey in Spain? Isn't it popular there or what? For example, in my country you can buy anything you want (even frog or kangaroo meat for food perverts) including Spanish Jamon which is officially forbidden for import by Putin's counter sanctions, but is always available in the meat stores

You can buy it, but usually frozen. Only see a few whole birds at xmas, probably for the xpats.

You see alot of processed cooked turkey breast, but I dont eat that shit, it's all water and salt.

Lamb/mutton can have a strong smell, depends how old it is, it's the fat rather than the meat.

I see a lot of processed turkey here in Spain - It's like fake ham to put in sandwiches etc - But, you are right, the whole fresh ones are mainly for us Brit expats at Christmas...

Although we have our traditional burnt leg of lamb - It's a family recipe - You put it in the oven, get drunk and fall asleep - every year the same.....

I stand to traditional French menu for Christmas:

Foie gras d'oie with sweet white Sauternes
Magret de canard with red Saint-Emilion
Plateau de fromages with red Beaujolais
Bûche de Noël with Champagne

Café with Cognac, Armagnac or Alcool de Poire

Our family doesn't celebrate Christmas at all. We don't believe in God, so it's not a holiday for us. But we always celebrate New Year
