What are high capacity magazines used for?

In your own words, can you give a brief explanation of what these are used for?

It has the same effect as driving a big, loud pickup truck. It makes you feel like you have a bigger dick than you actually have.

All kidding aside.... When I was in the Marines we were taught one shot, one kill. You fire one shot at a time. In Vietnam US troops would fire two thousand rounds for every single kill. We were taught to never use automatic fire - one shot at a time. "One well placed round" was the term we used.

I was trained the same way, I was always against the bump stock, yet Obama administration made it legal, I can only guess why, maybe they wanted that to happen?

I own an AR and the 30 rd mags they come with are sufficient

Great question.

In my opinion, no one should be allowed to own any kind of guns like these unless they go through some crazy training, EXTREME VETTING, pass endless criminal background checks and sanity checks, and are a member of some kind of gun range, which should be the only legal place to shoot these things.

I don't have any high capacity mags for my AR, just the standard 30 round mags. They are sufficient enough for me. I wish my 1911 held more than 8 rounds though.

I can tell you one thing about that. It's more interesting to watch a TV or movie gunfight with spaced out, well placed shots as opposed to people spraying bullets everywhere and never hitting anything.

and you also know that auto fire is to out fire the enemy for air strikes and flanking.

Now a days I use my guns to seduce young women. However in the distant past I had a lot of dealings with mobsters

Just the same I hate having to reload.

Well explained. Although other side may argue - while there is no question that you can run full gas tank in one go, where would you empty that big of a mag in one go? Except the shooting range.

If you plan on being a mass killer you are going to want a high capacity magazine so you can take out as many innocent people as you can. Other than the convenience of carrying several magazines with hundreds of rounds that you don't have to reload, there is not much use for them. Now if you are hunting Elk or Deer and you are a lousy shot, a high capacity magazine is exactly what you need. You can kill the whole herd. Alternately if we have a civil war in America and we have to go after the white Nazi's, we just shoot at the moron that is shooting at us on full auto. End that fuck with one well placed round. Any more questions?

I wouldn't say well explained. Because that would be comparing two different things related to two very different outcomes. Two very different purposes and results.

Your adding to that explanation was clearer. So I am to assume, that a high capacity magazine that can be used to maximize kill total is available because you simply do not want to be bothered with changing a mag that a smaller numbers of rounds?

So, because you are lazy, these need to be available? (no offense)

The shooting range? Why not then make these only available at the shooting range?

I am not trying to be judgmental. Nor am i looking for confrontation. Just asking simple questions to simple things here.

I don't know where you go to shoot but the ranges I go to are in various Missouri Conservation Areas and do not have supervision much less any services or equipment try outs/rentals.

I also shoot at a couple of my friends farms, so if I want to shoot I have to bring my own gear.

I like how some of the people on here think they know anything about guns when it's clear they don't. No one is forcing you to own a gun, if you feel all fuzzy and warm and safe, then by all means, don't own a gun. I own guns for several reasons, many have NOT been listed in this thread.

The American way... I would want these men with me if shit ever really hits the fan. Their military training is far superior to what I have learned on the ranges on my own. I may fill confident to be competent in one shot one kill up to maybe 20 yards distance with any of my many handguns/shotguns. And yes I do own several rifles as well, but I have never trained on the long shot of say 100 yards or more, which isn't much

Have you tried reloading a weapon under the current California gun laws? A musket may actually be easier to do so with. While I agree no one needs a 50 or 100 round clip, give me and allow me o use what the weapon is designed to use, be it 30 rounds for a rifle or the 3 rounds my 30-30 holds, or the 14 my Beretta 380 is designed to us. These after market, off brand smaller clips are going to cause nothing but troubles for me as they jam and misfire. Just like the offbrand coding used by cheap ignorant people all over the net now.

You read old Westmoreland strategy... Vietcong had a different one. NOT one shot ONE kill, but ONE shot ONE wounded....it took 4 soldiers ( or Marines) to move the wounded off the battlefield. A lot more efficient where ONE shot removes FIVE guys...that is one of the reason they defeated Americans..
