A National register of who buys what and limits on what people can buy would stop this. But you politicians won't pass that law for fear of losing the cash the NRA supplies.

No.

But they provide a framework to punish those that step outside the boundaries that society sets.

No laws - no society.

You do realize that banning assault weapons will not stop assault weapons.

There will always be assault weapons. The US isnt the only country that manufactures guns. They can easily be smuggled in. There are people who deal in arms through-out the world. Instead of an AR it will be an AK. And there are individual gunsmiths who are machinist that can make any gun on the market now in their own garage.

A ban will cause one thing - the price to go up. Thats about it.

Do you think a ban on all porn in the US will result in no porn ever being made again anywhere in the world or people in the US watching porn ?

No kidding.

Last time I checked murder is already illegal.

Someone that has already decided to commit murder isn't going to care what gun laws are on the books.

you really don't think banning them would make it harder for the average crazy person who isn't a criminal and doesn't have criminal know-how to get them?

1500 mass shootings in the USA since 2012 and armed citizens stopped how many?

Making guns hard to get and banning military rifles would not stop ALL shooters but it would stop most...not everybody has a connection to the underground arms market and not everybody can make it at home on a lathe...

Also making bullets expensive as fuck would help...

First, fully automatics are banned. Semi autos are still legal in some states. And there are hundreds of thousands of them in existence. A ban will not stop the ones in circulation from being used or owned. Even if you made it illegal in all states to own a semi-automatic weapon do you honestly think everyone is going to politely give up their semiautomatic guns voluntarily ?

They will go to the black-market.

Bans on anything are notoriously bad for preventing anything... did it help with drugs ? Cocaine is banned - how hard is it to get cocaine ?

The claim that it works in other countries also doesnt work in the US. We are not like the UK or Australia or any other EU country. The mentality of the US citizen is different. The crackdown that removing all guns from our country would require would be draconian.

1/3 of American households have a gun... are you going to jail 33% of Americans if they dont turn over their guns ? Lets say 50% of those that own guns give them up voluntarily - are you going to jail 10 million people for not giving up their guns? Where are these prisons being built ?

Its not a reasonable conversation to have. We have been, continue to be and will always be a free society and a part of that freedom is the right to bear arms. That genie isnt going back into the bottle.

No reason to take them away just tax the living shit out of them and introduce super stiff penalties for "lost" firearms...problem solved...people will turn them in to avoid paying tax on it each year...slap on like 30.000$ tax on a semi auto each year...

I beg to differ... there are 75-100 million AK-47s in the world. That's 1 for every 60 people.

https://www.theglobalist.com/20-fact...shnikov-ak-47/

More than 20 countries make them and their price ranges from $10 to $300.

I completely disagree. It's just too easy to get assault rifles, and there is no valid purpose for them.

If we were to ban assault rifles, it would make it too difficult for the average person to get. The average person isn't going to buy an AK47 from a smuggler.

How do you tax what you do not know what exists ? There is no national gun registry nor would that legislation ever pass. No one would step up and self-report.

Make bullets extremely expensive ? Sure that may work but most people who know what they are going can make their own or reuse what they have already bought.

Automatic weapon are nothing new in the civilian world. Look at the tommy gun in the 20's - 50's. Why didnt we have all these mass shooting back then?

The only things that have changed is our news, population and time on people's hands. The news is fueling the anger in people like Andy to flip out. Some people will go nuts on social media. Some people with go on a shooting rampage. But our news is in an outrage cycle where they know causing outrage gets views and ratings. So the news keeps posting all this negative shit to divide our country into a fight and outrage, our population is at an all time high which stresses our resources. Lastly, people have too much fucking time on their hands. When I was a kid and did drywall all day in the hot sun and commuted to work an hour each way, I was too tired to give a fuck about anything, but a cold beer and joint. Now people sit around all day on the computer listening to the lies and negative info in the news and social media.

wait are you saying the US gov has no files over who owns rifles/guns etc? if so then this is most strange...

you could still stop it by making "gun ID" mandatory if you want to enter a gun shop...like it is mandatory if you want to buy alcohol (if you look young)...no "gun ID" no entrance...works in my country, you can not buy one single bullet without a license...make it illegal to sell anything gun related if the customer does not have a proper license/permit for that SPECIFIC weapon/caliber...

you may argue a black market will form but it will be limited in nature...I would compare a ban on guns to a ban on steroids...they are banned and there IS a black market for steroids, but you can not buy them on every corner like drugs...you can buy them on the net if you know where to look, but only a small % of the population manages to get their hands on some...

for some reason though all my neighbours don't have any

yes, it's a mindset

but nobody wanted to accept that plans crash, we developed ABS, ESP, Airbags etc to make cars safer but whenever somebody suggests that maybe, eventually there are ways to make gun ownership safer, you guys go up in a fiery rage.

it's really an absurd spectacle to watch

please go on, allow also gun silencers, have mentally ill people and people on no fly lists guns - i'm sure it helps. Question is whom.

That genie isnt going back into the bottle.
so lets just shrug our shoulders and get back to work and hope one day we won't be a victim of some looney toon.

Yeah, isn't it amazing how the nutters claim anyone should be able to buy a gun but they get so upset when other countries want big guns/weapons..

you may argue a black market will form but it will be limited in nature...I would compare a ban on guns to a ban on steroids...they are banned and there IS a black market for steroids, but you can not buy them on every corner like drugs...you can buy them on the net if you know where to look, but only a small % of the population manages to get their hands on some...
There is no national gun registry.... some states have implemented some registration though.

https://www.concealedcarry.com/law/are-guns-registered/

There's no US Constitutional right to alcohol or steroids, bad analogy. And again, going forward that does little to change the weapons that are already in hands of millions of American citizens.

93 die a day from gun related incidents.

There are roughly 250 millions cars registered in the US.

There are roughly 347 million guns in American.

Thus making guns statistically safer than cars, despite the technological advancements in automobiles.

Compared to the rest of the world, and despite all the guns from 2010-2015 America is no where near the top of gun related homicides per 100,000 people...

America's gun culture vs. the world in 5 charts - CNN

Quote:
Globally, the US sees fewer gun-related murders than many of its southern neighbors.
According to the Small Arms Survey, El Salvador is currently home to the most gun-related murders in the world (excluding active war-zones) with guns killing more than 90 people for every 100,000 of population.
From 2010-2015, Honduras saw the highest averages of gun-related homicides, with guns killing 67 out of every 100,000 people there.
Venezuela and El Salvador also top the charts over the same five-year period, with 52 and 49 gun-related deaths, respectively, for every 100,000 of population.

Honduras and El Salvador - is that what you want to compare the US to?

I also have a statistics for you

https://www.vox.com/policy-and-polit...cs-maps-charts

PS: and if you would teach people driving better than those laughable tests in many states and also punish texting/phoning while driving with higher sentences, maybe you can also fix the car related deaths a bit

Exacatly. There is a reason why this happens way more often in the US than any where else.

For the record I'm referring to first world countries because no doubt some asshat will refer to some 3rd world shit hole.

Just like it is super difficult to buy illegal drugs. I remember as a kid, it was easier to buy drugs than alcohol.

Alcohol and drunk drinking kills more people than guns ever will. Why not banner that? Ohhh we tried that once.

Okay, I read the article? And? A nineteen year old kid got a AK-47 and killed eight people. The ONLY reason he was able to do this is because it's so easy to get an assault rifle.

The article didn't say where he got the assault rifle from. If he didn't buy it himself, he bought it from a friend, or perhaps stole it from a friend or a friend's parents but... If we stopped selling assault rifles and banned them, he wouldn't have been able to buy one, borrow one from his friend, or steal one from someone he knew. Instead, his only option would have been to drive or fly half way across the country, somehow get in contact with someone who smuggles assault rifles, give him and the money and hope he doesn't get ripped off, and then drive back to do his mass shooting....

Do you see the difference? Currently it's very easy for a nineteen year old kid to get an assault rifle, but if you remove assault rifles from society it would be very difficult for him to get.

The reality is we allow ANYONE to buy assault rifles with very little restrictions. Nearly anyone can get their hands on them.

Are you saying ban the future manufacture and sale of assault rifles as well as confiscate all existing assault rifles ?

No one knows who owns assault rifles. And even if you did, confiscating the existing assault rifles will be met with a lot of resistance and possibly armed conflict. More people will die trying to take them away then people now die by being shot with them. That could begin a civil war.

If you dont get rid of all of the existing assault rifles nothing will change... they will still be readily available to those that want them for an unlimited amount of time. Guns arent iPhones they dont have planned obsolesce.

it is an impossible situation.

Prohibition just simply doesnt work.

if people would be willing to start a civil war over something what they dont need as essential, then you have a bigger problem.

It's not super difficult to buy drugs. You can buy drugs in any city in the US. You cannot, however, buy AK-47s ilegally in any city.

no one is suggesting to completely ban guns. just make them harder to get and not sell guns that have no use whatsoever besides blasting shit at ranges and killing people like semi autos.

as for your drug analogy, i guess it depends who you are. i have no idea how to buy any kind of drug other than weed and even that is a hassle.

They should ban mentally deranged lunatics like yourself.
That is where the problem starts.
