Trump & Republicans still out to take away Obamacare

(Just in case you didn't know, it's not over! And Obamacare isn't safe!)

Quote:
Now, in an 11th-hour effort to repeal the Affordable Care Act, the party has come up with a way to repackage the funding for the law it loathes into a trillion-dollar pot of state grants.

The plan is at the core of the bill that Senate Republican leaders have vowed to bring to a vote next week. It was initially seen as a long-shot effort by Senators Lindsey Graham and Bill Cassidy. But for all its ad hoc, last minute feel, it has evolved into the most far-reaching repeal proposal of all.

It dismantles the Medicaid expansion and the system of subsidies to help people afford insurance. It gives the states the right to waive many of the consumer protections under President Obama?s landmark health law. And it removes the guaranteed safety net that has insured the country?s poorest citizens for more than half a century.

?This is by far the most radical of any of the Republican health care bills that have been debated this year,? said Larry Levitt, a senior vice president with the nonpartisan Kaiser Family Foundation. ?And the reason for that is that this would be the biggest devolution of federal money and responsibility to the states for anything, ever.?

It seems like each plan they come up is worse than the one before it.

I've never understood the Republican obsession with repealing Obmacare.

When something is broken, you fix it. If the AC breaks in my car, I get it fixed. If the AC is broken, along with the heater, the transmission, and the tires need to be fixed, you still fix the car.

Obamacare isn't failing. Any politician who says Obamacare is failing should be removed from office. It's not failing at all. I have the same exact healthcare I had before Obamacare, only I am paying a lot less for it. It is perfect? No, of course not. Fix what is broken.

Obamacare was broken from the start. It was never going to work in a self sustaining manner.

It is failing for a lot of people. You and I are doing well on it because we live in states that have embraced it and are working hard to make it work, however, there are a lot of states that have very few choices and those that are there are very expensive. Other states have issues because insurers aren't making any money so they are pulling out (many of those are states that didn't expand Medicaid), and it has done nothing to curb the cost of the actual healthcare itself. It will only continue to get more and more expensive and many will eventually find themselves priced out of the market or in a place where there are no insurers selling through the exchanges.

Of course, it can be fixed and there is a group of bipartisan Senators who are working on that, but Republicans and Trump want to erase anything that has Obama's name on it and are so desperate to pass anything, they would rather pass a bad bill that will hurt a lot of people than do the right thing and risk actually agreeing with a Democrat.

I heard Lindsey Graham describe his plan.

He's wanting to send the money to the states and allow the states to handle it. Sounds like a slightly better version of what we have now with a centralized bureaucracy in Washington D.C. in charge of it.

As he described it...you will now be able to hold your state's representative accountable for their healthcare system.
Right now it's being run by unelected bureaucrats who don't answer to the people.

And each state will be able to determine their own form of healthcare.

He spoke of California being able to go FULL SINGLE PAYER if Gov. Jerry Brown chooses to.
And he plainly said that if/when California does that...one of two things will happen: People who think single payer is a good idea will be proven right or it will fall apart financially.

Either way...it's a lot better than the horrible ObamaCare that was predicated on full out lies.

One of the big issues I can see with Graham's plan is that it completely cuts off federal money to the states in 2027. So then what?

Trump can't win with crookedteers.
It was "Trump will not do what he promised". Now when he tries to do - he better not do it

For people on the left, it has nothing to do with him keeping or not keeping his campaign promises, at least when it comes to healthcare, it is that he LIED!

He stood on the stage every night and said his plan would cover everyone and we would have better coverage for less money. None of those things are true.

Government needs to get out of healthcare. What they could do is write laws to control the costs on meds, make laws for provisions for pre existing conditions, and allow us to purchase insurance across state lines. Free market solutions.

So you want the government out of healthcare, but you also want them to write laws telling insurance companies how to do business? Isn't that the government involved in healthcare?

Except for laws to control the costs of meds sounds like you're all for Obamacare.

Then we need to fix it in the states where it isn't working. It's too bad some states didn't take this seriously.

Replacing Obamcare will not fix the problem, it will only create more problems.

I agree 100%. Personally, like many others, I would like to see a universal, single payer system. I don't see that happening for a while so the next best option would be to sit down, identify the problems with Obamacare and come up with ways to fix it and make it better/cheaper.

This sounds wonderful. We can go back to what we had before - no healthcare for the vast majority of Americans.

My family didn't have healthcare when I was growing up - My step father had his own business and was self employed. When us kids were rushed to the hospital my folks just paid out of pocket. The problem is healthcare costs have gone through the roof, and very few can afford to pay out of pocket. One of my friends is going in for an operation next month that costs $70k. Not many people can afford that out of pocket.

It does nothing of the sort. What Trump promised on the campaign trail would fix the problems, but what the Republicans are putting forth does nothing to fix it.
