Next Step In Cams...

I've established I can make sales, they're growing. Top two are Awe and chatur ... so if I'm doing about $1600 USD a month on average, what do I do next? Keep growing till 3k,4k,5k,10k,20k?

At what point does it make sense to start up my own or should I let the big boys handle my traffic?

Or.... should I just invest in a mainstream venture? I really don't *NEED* the money. I just save it. And I'm not trying to be a dick saying that I'm well off or anything but I treat it like business money and isn't touched.

I know one thing, if anyone closed their doors, my income would drop immediately.

Hats off to Chaturbate and Awempire, been good working with them. All the other cam companies have spoken to me, I haven't had anything bad to say about them either.

Thanks guys.

I've heard it's best to stop growing at the $2500 mark

Seriously though, to start a cam site you need around $250k in the bank realistically between software, servers, paying the models yourself until your site starts turning a profit, buying traffic, etc.

250k? I'd multiply that few times...

You don't want to start your own cam site. Not only is it expensive but it is an enormous headache to operate. Cams are in real-time, they're not videos or static photos. Your cams must be up 24/7 and there are a million things that can go wrong at any moment from the tipping/token mechanism to the cams themselves. If any of these things go down, your customers, models, studios, and affiliates all suffer. Moderating abuse and controlling fraud are a constant battle. It's like nothing else in the industry. If you have deep pockets, a solid team of programmers available 24/7, customer service personnel available 24/7, and want a lot less sleep, with no guarantee of success, give it a try.

Thanks for your comment and everyone else's.

You're right, way above my head with no guarantee of success. Maybe I could work on promoting the ones that work and find out how to make money with the cam sites that aren't working for me, so that each site is getting the right traffic and pays are coming in from several companies?

So, I am assuming you are good at generating traffic and converting it? I would work on that and find new traffic sources and offers.

Forget about opening a real broadcast webcam site -- you either need a lot of money or a lot of experience. Also, I am of the opinion that there are many disruptive *cataclysms* coming in the webcam business -- I would not invest in any of the current webcam site business models heavily right now. I have been doing this *full-time* for 16 years now, BTW.

Create traffic and convert the traffic and partner with bigger fish for a few years. You can always move your generated traffic to the best paying offers.

Excellent strategy Barry; you're always full of good advice and ideas.

I really want to promote X Love Cam but my traffic sources are limited - going to increase general webcam traffic very soon to send there. The thing is my majority of traffic is fetish and I have a place I send it that converts, so I don't want to break that machine. I do have an account and we're on Skype together, so I'll touch base when I'm ready to blast this!

Thanks again everyone.

Hi IncredibleWorthEthic,

I would completely disagree with what Drake said. Running your own webcam site isn't nearly as hard or expensive as what he suggests.

Furthermore, you already have a big head-start over many others and are doing things exactly right. By being an affiliate, you are learning the ropes, attracting traffic and turn it into dollars.

Hard work? Of course. You, like all of us, are probably glued to our computers and stats 23 hours a day. And when you get your 1 hour sleep, you're probably still thinking about work. You live this stuff, just like everyone else in this industry.

Of course, you want solid software and a good looking site, and all the usual stuff. This is actually pretty easy to get through us, or though several other companies lurking on GFY.

What is actually hard to get, is good traffic that converts, and you are one of the very few that already has this. Getting models is easy compared to getting paying customers.

Where is what I suggest: Check us out at http://www.2Much.net. We'll give you a free demo, or a rev-share license if thats what you want.

At the same time, check out some other cam companies that lurk on GFY. Honestly, all of them have really good products. Take your time and carefully evaluate each one to see which would be the best fit for you.

Hint: Instead of spending money up front, try to negotiate a rev share license instead as I suggested above, with an option to buy it outright later on.

Cams are a great corner of the adult industry as I'm sure you know, and with emerging tech such as live 3DVR, it's going to explode.

Owning your own cam site means you don't have to settle for just commissions anymore. It also means that you get to promote your own brand and build your own customer base instead of someone elses. It means that you get to set your own prices & payouts. Most importantly maybe, it means that you get to have your own affiliates, and you get to help them generate more sales for you.

Cheers!
