I've been thinking lately of opening up some dating sites. In ME/NH/VT its easy to find hundreds if not thousands of lonely women who need sex, companionship, marriage. But looking online what i'm finding are a lot of scam sites. Asiandate.com is a prime example. Thousands of professionally taken pictures of girls who could easily pass as models from 18 up.

To good to be true ? Yes i think so, i signed up with the name Jack T Ripper and my Profile / Bio read something like this. Fat old man 80 years old. A convicted felon having just served 20 years for murder. I am now free and looking for a good obedient woman to wipe my ass, wash / bathe me and cook 4 square meals a day. You will get a roof over your head in a climate that goes from -30F to +100F and for 6 months of the year you will not be able to leave the house because of the snow is so deep.

Believe it or not within 24 hours i received 120 e-mails from supposed members who wanted everything from marriage to casual sex. If I was interested I should buy 1000 credits for $400.00 (smaller amounts are available) This amount could be used up in less than a week as you are charged for messages phone calls picture etc etc.

What seems to be happening is that women are getting paid to string guys along so that they spend credits of which they get a percentage. Its just another form of income like phone sex. I have since signed up with 5 other sites and have gotten very similar results
(I didn't spend a dime as most give you a few free contacts).

Im wondering how they get away with this and if it's a model that would work in the USA ?

I have done some research and believe that this site and many others are Russian based.
What do you guys think, a good business model or jail time waiting to happen ?

I don't know about now, but a while back adult dating sites seemed to be flooded with either people who were likely paid by the site to string men along and get them to join the dating site and buy a paid membership or they were women who "had more pics online" then sent you a link to their personal site for you to join.

I'm sure some of them are legit and have real users, but I'm pretty confident a lot of them aren't. I have no idea who is who.

All dating sites are more less scam, and most of them have that thing where they automatically message new members. I think for real dating is best to find local dating agency, nothing over internet.

Out of curiosity, I clicked on a dating site promising women near me. It list dozens of women in "my" zip code, 66115. Many of the women pictured I've seen elsewhere on the Internet.
But the best part is I'm still trying to figure out how all these women live in 66115. The zip code takes up a normal land area for an urban area and buildings have large values.

However, there are ZERO residents in 66115. ZERO. Residents of 66115 include the General Motors Fairfax plant, Sunshine Biscuits/ Keebler / Kellogg plant, Certainteed Fiberglass and a large gasoline pipeline terminal.

Maybe these women women are sleeping in the cars.

I can't think of any dating sites I would say are completely legit, just some use less/more fake profiles than others.

Maybe big sites like match dot com would be best. I know of an actual woman who uses it, and physically she's a good catch.

I think the mainstream ones like Match.com and eHarmony are likely mostly legit. There are a ton of single people out there and I know several people, men and women, who have met and dated people off those big mainstream dating sites. I think it is the "adult" dating sites that are mostly scams, although I have a feeling the gay ones might be a little more legit.

Adultfriendfinder does not create or use fake profiles. Yet since we are one of the oldest sites we are a BIG target for scammers. We have a 12 person in house team who's only job is to hunt down and kill fake profiles. It's a never ending battle.

That's not what you were doing, though. The guys sent you money hoping for a chance to meet a woman. They knew, as you said, that there was no guarantee, but there was actually no chance. It's sleazy. It's fraud. It's like being a fishing guide and taking someone's money then taking them to a lake that you know for a fact has no fish.

I originally joined FaceBook, as I was on my high school reunion class committee and it was an easy way to find classmates, do reunion planning and if someone was back home visiting family, we could have a mini-reunion. Because of that, I've scored with my 1st love, from high school. My junior high dance partner, from our school bi-weekly dances. She even invited me to Arizona, right after dumping her boy friend. Both of these I haven't seen in years. Last, has been a girl, in a local interest group (15,000+ members), that likes my "witty comments." All I did was invite her out for coffee, but we settled for a couple glasses of wine. And that's without even trying. So why pay a dating site? Granted, I'm not going out with 5***** porn stars, but probably doing better than any pay dating site. Only down side was the girl in Arizona got back together with her boyfriend before I got there. (Booked my airfare 3 weeks early for the rates). Fortunately, they both had their own houses. Night I got there was the weekly poker game with them and friends. Him, and all the other poker players were ex-cops. Made for an awkward weekend.
