for me its less about performance and more about the style, sound and time those cars came from. camero, chevelle, gto, cuda, charger, etc. these are the kinds of cars i am into. i don't care for sports cars like ferarri and such.

Tesla may be faster; Ferrari would definitely be more fun.

I have driven electric (and been stuck behind numerous); they suck if you drive for pleasure.

Except your fun stop after x amount of miles for a charge. mine stops for 5 minutes while i fuel up at the pump. I go on 200+ mile cruises with my car clubs with spirited driving. Thats not happening in an electric car anytime soon. 300mile range on a tesla while you beat the balls off it will not be a reality.

Plussss you also have the fun factor of being BUILT not BOUGHT. Whats the fun in buying a car thats fast right out of the box? No challenge in that whatsoever.

Can your electric plastic wannabe-car travel back in time? Because it would have to be 1971 for the Ferrari GTC/4.

Again someone speaking the truth. I've driven an electric and it feels like I'm inside a child's toy. Plus there's very little road feel and almost no "instinctive communication" between the vehicle and the driver.

An electric car can't match the hard driving style of a gasoline/diesel powered car.

If you do that, you'll drain your battery withing an hour.

You can't effectively: drive uphill, heat/AC the car, load it up, etc - all that drains the fuck out of your battery. Have fun recharging several times per day.

it takes 75 minutes to charge it 100% .. but even that is with the fucking super charger only what an idiot

https://www.cars.com/articles/2013/1...attery-charge/

"With a single charger connected to a 240-volt outlet, which Tesla recommends, the pace speeds up to 31 miles of range for each hour of charging, and a full 300-mile charge takes less than 9.5 hours".

Ethanol destroys older engines and their fuel systems. You try to put fuel with a high amount of ethanol into older cars, it eats all those old rubber fuel lines and engine seals.

There is a reason all the manufacturers had to start building ethanol friendly engines in their newer cars just for today's current fuel ratio of "less" than 10% of it being mixed in.

Ethanol was the worst scam they ever pushed you can thank George Bush Jr for that one...

I'm posing real people's experience feedback. You are linking to advertised info from the user manual.

I guess it's fine to have a tiny electric car for a woman to drive groceries shopping or pick up kids from school. But it's not a man's car you can rely on / have fun with.

My entire fuel system has been replaced to accommodate E85. Lines, fuel rails, pumps, injectors, return system, etc...nothing is stock about my car except for the chassis itself. The car is also a 2015...so not old. Oh and forged internals capable of 1200+ hp

Y'all can keep trying. I know how to build a car the proper way. Its not completed yet either. YSI larger blower (supercharger) is getting installed. it makes 650 on 15 psi...its going to be pushing close to 30 by beginning of fall. Currently the worlds highest HP Q50 and I plan on making it a difficult job for anyone to touch that record.

I still spent less than what a tesla costs...by about 1/2. Car is sponsored by one of the best shops who work on these engines in the country.

Funny you compare the car to ferrari's yet here you have an mid sized family sedan putting up a fight

I would never buy EV crap that takes more than 10 minutes to charge. I usually consider the 3-minute routine of filling up my car as too long and boring already

Gotcha. I admit I was initially confused by your post but then decided to reply. These morons are posting so much nonsense, it's like a mind fuck, can't figure out if it's for real or heavy trolling.

I bet the limited-life-span energy cells aren't too green either. Have they moved away from Lead yet?

Lead acid battery cannot be discharged too deeply. And the Toyota Prius battery (previous generation non-Lithium) stays between 20% to 80% charge. Not 0% to 100%.

It's a fuckign clusterfuck i'm not willing to get involved in. Musk should stick to launching his rockets.

What's the main appeal of electric cars for you guys? All I can think of are numerous downsides and the only potential upside is a warm fuzzy feeling that you are saving the environment not unlike the feeling that vegetarians get.

I randomly bought a Prius, after having one as a rental when I got rear-ended, it was the only car they had left. I was travelling from the OC to LA daily and quickly learned to love that car. So efficient. So quiet. Save tons of $$$ in gas. Holds its ressle value. Thats why I got an electric hybrid, none that saving the world green bullshit.

Of course! Some people, like my brother, LOVE combustion engines. The sound, the smell, the rumble, etc. It's totally cool to be enthusiastic about this.

I on the other hand am enthusiastic about EV's. I see the problems with combustion engines (low efficiency, too much energy lost to heat, too heavy and too many moving parts, etc) vs electric. I think EV's are high tech, and I love all things high tech.

Of course, but the same thing happens when you tune a combustion engine car too. If the manufacturing spec says you get 100% off the lot, then you tune the car to increase compression, your motor runs harder, and gets hotter.

Then you need to add an oil cooler and maybe swap the thermostat. Then you change the transmission because the increased tourque is causing it to wear out faster. Next your tires can't stick to the road thanks to the increased speed so you swap them for stickier tires which of course get used up faster too. Etc etc etc.

It's simple physics: More energy - less time (more speed) = more heat = faster wear and tear, regardless of the power source.

Not true. The environmental costs are recovered quickly. On average, a mid-size electric car will break even on carbon production from manufacturing after 8,000 kilometres of driving. A full-size electric will cross that threshold at 32,000 kilometres. After that, it?s almost all zero-emissions gravy depending on the electricity source.

Not true. Tesla Motors was incorporated in July, 2003 by Martin Eberhard and Marc Tarpenning, who financed the company until the Series A round of funding. Elon Musk led the Series A round of investment in February, 2004, joining Tesla's Board of Directors as its Chairman. Musk did not build Tesla from the ground up. He was a significant investor to the company a short while after creation. He used his money from the sale of PayPal.

But why? Hemp (and other biofuels) still adds CO2 to the atmosphere, are still very expensive, requires complex engines with lots of moving parts like gasoline engines do now, requires refinement (more co2), delivery to gas stations (more co2), and contains less energy so performance suffers. EV's have none of these problems.

Not everywhere. Here in Canada only about 12% of electricity comes from coal, and in case you haven't been paying attention, coal is dying fast in the US, and yes even in China.

I think you are talking about electromagnetic non-ionizing radiation.

Mean magnetic fields ranged from nominally 0.6 to 3.5 µT, compared with nominally 0.4 to 0.6 µT for gasoline vehicles, well within published exposure limits for the general population. (Gasoline cars spew electromagnetic radiation from the spark plugs and generator).

The bigger risk to people is of course the pollution they send out the exhaust, but also from the toxic chemicals that are used to make the dashboard and other interior parts of your car. (Always open the windows when you get in your car for a few minutes as sunlight might cause fumes from those chemicals to be released).

True, but I think some older gasoline cars, especially classic cars, will go way up in value.

Tesla will be showing off a electric 10 wheeler sometime this year.

Also there is already this one.. it's electric powered but uses a hydrogen fuel cell to charge the battery. It already has a thousand mile range.

Nikola Motor unveils 1,000 HP hydrogen-electric truck with 1,200 mi. range

Now this company might actually be on the right track, using hydrogen to keep the battery charged.

It will be interesting to see what Musk has coming as well, because he's no dummy.

Please show me one tuned reliable electric vehicle that doesnt require a charging station directly at the track in order to run its fastest pass. I implore you.

I love the Tesla.

But I'd say that the very thing that makes it so fast is also the thing that takes away from the driver experience.

With electric motors there is no need for a transmission. The power goes straight to the wheels so you have full torque at any speed.

Super fast!
And like I said, I love the Tesla. Drove one at the end of last year (never got to drive the original little roadsters they made).

I would own a Tesla in a heartbeat and probably will in the near future.

But having said that...I don't think an electric car can ever give a real "car guy" the excitement and feel of a car that a stick shift sports car does.

Having to use the clutch and shifting...along with the rumble of the exhaust is just one of the funnest components of driving a sports car.

Now automatic transmission cars VS Tesla? I'll take the Tesla every day of the week.

Right now my garage is a steroided Jeep Wrangler and a new Mustang I just bought (5.0 V8 engine and 6 speed manual transmission).

But I would LOVE to add a Tesla into that mix. I'd probably drive the Tesla every day. And then if I were going out to dinner in the evening it would be the Mustang with the top down.

I definitely am NOT anti-electric car at all.

One acre of HEMP will produce 1800 gallons of oil- or 42 barrels of oil. ONE ACRE. That's 0.4 hectares for you Europeans.

Fertile land is scarce and is used for food and farming...if you start mass producing hemp it will raise food prices...Brazil could not pull it off with biofuel, your chances are none...

No matter what: Fertile land is scarce and it's a problem already...infrastructure is a problem too...biofuel is just a small scale solution...
