They're dicks and solder the RAM in place on most Macbook Airs. You can double the RAM on most models when you order one, but can't be upgraded after..

I agree with colmike, never heard of any normal person who has successfully upgraded their RAM on a Macbook Air.

They charge quite a bit to add it when you order one, fully aware that this is basically your only chance to change the RAM. Live and learn, next time, make sure to order with the maximum RAm already from the start.

Probably a good idea to make sure the motherboard your macbook air can actually handle 16GB. Otherwise you will do all that work for nothing.

I thought of doing something like that, but if you've never done any advanced soldering (Not just little things here and there) then you're most likely going to break it. As well as possible compatibility issues^.

I haven't worked at Apple in about 10 years, either, I'd call up an engineer if I still could.

My wife uses Lenovo Ideapad. It's thin, cold and silent as dead, because it has no single fan inside. I've extended its memory to 8GB, but there is no problem to put there 16GM or 32GB if necessary.
