Old Movies You Have to See? 60s and Older.

I really liked "The Roaring 20s"

and "Public Enemy"

What next? "Rebel Without A Cause"?

I'm a big fan of both Bogart and Cagney.

So for Bogart it's the African Queen

And for Cagney it's Great Guy

OK there's plenty, let me dig. I'm a sucker for old and overlooked movies.

- Some classics (occasionally overlooked):

Paths of Glory (1957) - one of the very most intense war movies

Spartacus (1960)

12 Angry Men (1957)

The Iceman Cometh (1960)

On the Waterfront (1954)

- all movies with James Dean

Rebel Without a Cause (1955)

East of Eden (1955)

Giant (1956)

- some great early Paul Newman:

Cat on a Hot Tin Roof (1958)

The Hustler (1961)

The Hud (1963)

- Billy Wilder the master:

Double Indemnity (1944)

Sunset Boulevard (1950)

Ace in the Hole (1951)

The Apartment (1960)

- Alfred Hitchcock the master:

Strangers on a Train (1951)

Rear Window (1954)

North by Northwest (1959)

Sorry lazy to dig up the trailers but these are a few i can recommend right away.

Then there's many more, the whole Film Noir. John Huston movies which I love, plenty of amazing international movies etc. I could go on and on but this should be enough to get a taste.

The movies and the Oscars belong in the past.

Some great films have been made for sure, but until Hollywood is broken up, I refuse to even acknowledge it as a legitimate art form.

Good movies are never old. There are too many to mention but I chip in with Fritz Lang's "Scarlet Street":

I almost forgot "Forbidden Games", the most touching French movie after WWII.
