China successfully extracts new energy source

China just extracted gas from 'flammable ice', and it could lead to a brand new energy source - ScienceAlert the "flammable ice" holds huge amounts of untapped energy source, just 1 cubic metre of methane hydrate, the name given to the ice can release 164 cubic metres of natural gas! That's really neat! It seems like a lot of work. I can understand drilling down for oil, but for methane? Is there a worldwide shortage or something? Isn't methane the gas that comes from shit and decomposing bodies?
