Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 2 : GREAT !!!! (No spoilers)
Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 2 is great!
No spoilers: There's so much to like about GotG2 I don't know where to start. It's crazy fun, and funny. The story is great, the action is really good, the visual effects are ...wow.. Here's what stood out for me: The visual effects. AntMan and Captain America Civil War, you see younger versions of certain characters made with CG VFX (A "Wall Street" version of Michael Douglas's Pim character in AntMan, and a "Less than Zero" version of Robert Downy Jr's Tony Stark in Cival War). In GotG2, they do the same to Kurt Russel, and its GREAT, with a mix of makup and CG. There's something nice about seeing older actors as their younger selves, perfectly with CG. The 3D. Most 2D movies converted in post to 3D looks terrible, but in GotG2 it looks really, really good. The backgrounds were deep, people and objects were clearly in front of others, etc. The image was also bright and sharp and clear with great color where as usually, 3D to me looks murky and blurry. The IMAX 3D Format: I'm not sure but I think the 3D artists and the IMAX technicians worked together on this. The movie is "wide" most of the time, and "high" other times which is normal in this kind of movie. But twice, a spaceship flew into the "wide" scene from "outside" of the frame, right from the edge of the Imax screen. This effect is repeated near the end with some fire embers. It's a really, really good visual effect and use of IMAX 3D. Anyway enough of the tech. The movie is fun, fun fun. It has many surprises, nods to other characters in the MCU, a hint of a future story (but if you blink you'll miss it), and several post-credit scenes. The performances are solid, the music is PERFECT, etc etc etc. If you liked the original Guardians of the Galaxy, you'll love this one. It's better.
