Michelle Obama: I Won't Run For President

Former First Lady Michelle Obama appeared to rule out running for elected office during her first public remarks since leaving the White House.

The Q&A at an architecture convention in Orlando came days after her husband made his first public comments as ex-president at a Chicago university.

Mrs Obama, who left office with a 68% approval rating (10% more than her husband) said "politics is tough."

"It's all well and good until you start running, and then the knives come out."

It's hard on a family, she said. "I wouldn't ask my children to do this again because when you run for higher office, it's not just you. It's your whole family."

But "public service will always be in our blood", she added.

Although Mrs Obama had played down her political ambitions before, while first lady, this is the first time she has done so since the election campaign, when she was widely viewed as the most effective weapon in the Democratic armoury.

She shouldn't, she is not qualified. Being married to a former President is not a qualification for the highest office in the land. We are learning this lesson first hand when we elected a fucking reality TV star to be our President.

If she wants to be president she need to get elected to Congress, and then perhaps serve in another government post.

How does being in the legislative branch of govt. suddenly "quailify" you to be the head of the Executive branch of govt?
Your ideas on how things work are completely backwards to me.

I honestly think she should have run in 2016. She could have easily won the Democtrat nomination.

You are kidding me, right?

It's called experience.

I am not saying you need to work for the Executive branch of the government. But you need some kind of experience - in government. You need to know how government works. Ideally you should have a broad set of skills in state government, federal government, foreign affairs, and the military. Other areas such as healthcare and education help also.

With the exception of Trump, every President in the past sixty years has had some of this experience. (And we see how well this is working out with Trump.) Even Ronald Reagan was at least governor of California.

With the exception of law, Michelle Obama has none of these qualifications.

I understand what you are trying to say.
But you're wrong.

The only "experience" should be Executive Level experience.
And that's one of the reasons that Senators and Congressmen rarely win the White House and usually don't have much success when they do.

Legislative bureaucracy "experience" does NOT make a good leader.

Governors are usually better as President's because they have a experience on the state level at running a govt.

Having said that...the office of President was never intended to be only reserved for lifetime bureaucrats with no REAL world experience.
It was meant to be an office that ANY citizen of the United States could hold.

Leadership is something that you can't teach. And though leadership experience is valuable...it's not something that true leaders need (the first time a leader takes charge in life is the "first time", there is no way to "learn it").

Some people are just born leaders.
I think Michelle is one of those far more so than her husband ever was.
That's just my opinion based on President Obama's history before coming out of nowhere to win the Presidency.

As for Trump...I know you're being derogatory by describing him as nothing more than a reality show star.
But the true "reality" is that he is indeed an executive. And very much "qualified" to be President.

But every President "learns on the job". It's a unique position. And unless you've already been President, you can't have any "experience" in that job. It's one of a kind.

I completely disagree. "Executive leadership" skills are only a small part of how our government works.

This is exactly why Trump is doing so poorly right now. He knows what he wants to do, but doesn't understand if it is the proper thing to do no less how to get it done. Healthcare is a great example. This was a campaign promise. But he doesn't understand how government works. Trump doesn't understand the general public doesn't want Obamacare replaced. Because of his lack of experience he doesn't understand this, and doesn't understand why twice he has tried to pass this through Congress and doesn't understand why it's failed twice.

Right now we just passed the 100 day mark, and Trump has yet to pass a single piece of legislation.

Have you noticed Trump hasn't left the country yet? By this time Obama visited nine countries. Do you know why? I have a friend who worked in the White House, in the travel department. When Trump took office she lost her job, which is customary. However, the Trump administration has yet to hire people to run the travel department. Because of his complete lack of government experience, no one in his administration gave the travel department any thought. On the first day he walked into the White House, Trump had no idea he had to hire thousands of people to work in the White House. He hasn't even picked the people who pick their staff.

Trump's first 100 days compared to Obama's: All the laws, golf trips, holidays and poll ratings | The Independent

What did you say about prior presidents, and how they rarely have this experience? Such as whom? Every one of them has had past government experience.

Bush - Governor of Texas.
Clinton - Governor, Attorney General
Bush - Director of CIA, Congress
Reagan - Governor
Carter - Govenor
Ford - Congress
Nixon - Congress
Johnson - Congress
Kennedy - Congress

(Baddog might be able to go back further in time.)

Every last one of these had government experience. You must have government experience. If not, the simplest of things get completely fucked up. The biggest event at the White House every year is the Easter egg hunt. They could not have fucked this up any worse short of canceling it. Because Trump has no political experience and has never been to the White House, they failed to plan for it. They didn't even hold it on Easter. And none of the local schools who normally get invited got invites. The end result is the very few miniorities got invited and it was the whitest Easter at the White House ever.

Doesn't sound important to you, does it? But if Trump and his administration cannot plan out a single yearly event at the White House months in advance, what the fuck is he going to do during a real crisis? He is going to turn to Bannon and his son in law, both of whom also have zero experience?

What we are seeing right now is what happens when you put someone with zero experience in the White House. Trump has the lowest popularity rating of any new president ever, has accomplished NOTHING in fifty days, and he is so incompetent that he and his staff failed to fully staff the travel department... The President cannot make at trip out of the country because they didn't hire anyone to plan it.

But you are right Robbie. Obviously experience isn't required. I'm sure you get your oil changed in your car at Wendy's restaurant.
