Twitter cards.. Holy shit, these work great!

Hey everyone!

How's it going. I have some interesting info to share.

First, I've been using twitter for years and have seen it at it's best and worst. Lately things have been real slow getting traffic from twitter. With people posting full videos cut up into 2 min 20 second seconds and threaded back into a full video, it's hard to get users to click outbound links.

Originally I would use a link with an image and that worked great. Eventually animated gifs were allowed and that increased things as well. BUT, twitter has become saturated with this. These days, it barely works at all. Most people these days seem to just post the videos with no links and people just stay on twitter to watch porn.

Recently I've been working on improving my website as I've had massive issues with google and other search engines and while doing so I seem to have set up twitter cards (I didn't even know I did this, lol).
I posted a link on twitter and noticed it showed up with those fancy twitter cards and looked all pro. Suddenly I noticed lots of twitter traffic on site.

I don't know if it's related to the look of the cards, the added description of the videos or what, but damn... these twitter cards work great!!!

I highly suggest adding the meta to your websites so that if someone does post a link to twitter or another social network it will have that fancy card-like display. Works better than images & animated gifs combined. I posted a link 45 min ago and pinned it, it's already at 82 link clicks / 34 profile clicks. I can't fucking believe it works so good, but it does.

Also, seems to work great on Tumnblr too.

Give it a try if you want to improve your social media traffic, especially from twitter.

I had problems trying to get twitter cards working on one of my wordpress sites. All the plugins I tried never put a thumbnail when posting on twitter. Any advice?

Sure, I actually did a bit of testing with them as well. I wanted to see if I could post an animated gif AND have it display the card but that does not work, if you have a gif (or image I assume) it will not display the card.

I am using Yoast SEO on wordpress. It is what helps me make the nice cards. It takes a while messing around with it to figure it out because there is a lot of stuff in there, but if you go into to social area add your twitter handle and it seems to do it all on it's own. I never knew it would even do that myself, I just found out by accident but so happy I did, lol.

Also, you can choose if you want to use the side pic or the larger above pic style in those options. One other thing I noticed is the card will not immediately display on twitter it takes about 20 seconds or so for it to show but then it always shows. I guess it's reading the info or getting the image.

I see a lot less RT's and likes on the card tweets than the gif / image tweets, however, there are a lot more link clicks. So it's a trade off of sorts.
