I need input

I have a Dell d830 Latitude laptop that the FN key has quit working. The function keys work but not the FN key. It worked up until a short time ago. My OS is Windows 7. I have been unable to find a fix that works using google and you tube.

Any ideas people. I need it to work to switch over to my TV as an external monitor and watch movies on my TV.

External usb keyboard?

I assume you've tried blasting it out with air, normally dust and crumbs cause the problem.

I forget if windows has that on-screen keyboard that you can use with a mouse or touchpad, but that might be an option.

Maybe you can use this one for a parts machine

Maybe replace the keyboard if that is what has gone bad

Check in the BIOS if FN keys settings are changed. You could also get a bluetooth keyboard. Repairing laptop keyboards is expensive at times .

As the system in booting hit F2 to go to Setup. From there click 'System Configuration' then 'Function Key Behavior'. Switch to 'Fuction Key First' then hit the 'Apply' box, then 'Exit'. Now the function keys will work normaly and you can hold 'Fn' to use the multimedia fuctions.

F2 on the D830 is for the BIOS. The function keys work. The FN key does not.
