Mailing List/Email Help

I'm trying to set up email lists and forwarding. I registered a domain with a different registrar than my host. I created a pam@domain email after getting the mx info from my host. Registrar won't accept mx1 or mx2 -- only mail#@host.

I tried instead to forward support@ to pam@. Not valid or something like that.

I found a site that handles the mailing list additions, etc. I've never dealt with this, even when I had memory. I ran my own server. Now I'm dependant on a host that rarely answers support questions.

I only need support@, pamwinter@, and probably mailinglist@ in case of issues.

How do I handle this if my host does mx1 only, the registrar host only does mail1@, and what's the easiest way to get this done right when dealing with two competitors?

Sounds confusing as fuck, I know. It's probably very simple but I can't remember shit. If it's written here, I can print it out for the future.

Thanks.

what host and which registrar are you using?

Did the host give you an admin panel of any kind to use? Some are cpanel, some have custom stuff.

Host is GoToNames and registrar is Dynadot. Admin panel for host is a custom one from what I can tell. No identifier shown. Just checked Dynadot and they, too, don't identify.

Thank you.

I went over and looked at Dynadot and gotonames because I am not familiar with either of them.

On Dynadot it appears that you can only do email forwarding with their basic registration. You can add emails by upgrading to their email hosting plan for $1.00/month. I did not go very far into what it would entail to set up an email address in that plan.

It did appear that you could do forwarding for up to 10 addresses, so you could take those addresses that you want created and forward them to a gmail or yahoo address.

It also looked like you could do a wildcard forward and have any addresses forwarded to another address.

I looked at Gotonames and it indicates that you get 25 email addresses with a hosting account. I did NOT find anything about how to set up those addresses. The FAQ link goes to a form to send a request and their support link was 404.

I assume that in the control panel somewhere would be a place to add email addresses but without seeing it I could not really say.

So, I have no solution for you beyond what you already knew. Sorry about that.

Myself, I would get on a host that actually provides some support or I would pay the $1.,00/month for the email hosting even though that would piss me off.

Also, from some of your other posts it sounds like you had a coder who did some stuff for you already. You might want to ask them for some help as you have already established a trust level. It might not be in his ball park but then again it might.

Good Luck.
