Acute Kidney Damage Common in Marathon Runners
A study appearing in the American Journal of Kidney Diseases included a startling statistic: 82% of marathon runners developed acute kidney injury during races. I sat down with the lead and senior authors of the study to discuss the implications, including ways that dedicated marathon runners can avoid kidney damage while maintaining pace. In addition to your kidneys, running also damages your ability to not turn into a woman.

Walking is better. Less chance for muscle loss, although it takes longer than running.

Yeah, I read that last night. It was kind of disheartening. Nothing further on long term effects but i saw some horrible stories on reddit of guys going into partial kidney failure during ultra marathons. I never had an interest in those but that sounds horrible. I have a feeling that the correlation of the kidney injuries is the fact that people don't precondition correctly or build up the endurance slowly. I think a lot of people can just will their way through a marathon but to be truly prepared for one takes a lot of work and a slow build up to it.
translation: I have the endurance of an elderly man so i just work on my biceps and flex in the mirror at the gym and pretend that chicks dig that. I train for nothing ever.

A simple reason for it.... Repeated impact on the body causes red cells to break up and subsequently block capillaries in the kidney, as the kidney tries to filter all these broken cells. There are several other types of this impact heamolysis one of ( and I kid you not) is something called "bongo drum anemia"....

I passed my first and only kidney stone while jogging. I was 2 laps in and had 2 more to go and i sucked it up. When i got home i knew i was going to piss blood. Surreal experience
