[QUOTE=2MuchMark;21552628]He's not dumb. And why do you need to call people names when you are on the losing end of an argument?

First, electric cars are MY thing! Don't credit Crocket with that, grrrr.. and to answer your question, Electricity can come from coal, yes, but it doen't HAVE to. Electricity can be made from Hydro, or Solar, or Wind.

That may be true, but again, that is the problem. All of those factories are producing a dirty, expensive inefficient product.

If you were going to build an energy company and could do it anywhere in the world, wouldn't you want to build one that is inexpensive, safe, renewable and has access to an unlimited supply of raw energy like the Sun?

Your narrow beliefs are what gets you into losing arguments like this. Challenge your beliefs. Go beyond your safe space and learn some science.

I don't always agree with Crocket. You don't have to either of course, but if you want to challenge anyone, do yourself a favour and back it up with real facts, with real links. You will find that you are challenging yourself at the same time. Isn't that a good thing?

Peace.
Hey shit for brains, I did back up what I posted, can't you fucking read you moron, or are you going to whine and complain to Eric like you complained to Alec at Xbiz because I didn't play nice with you?

Fucking PUSSY!

Actually since Ive worked in nuclear for over 30 years I might know as much or more - and spent 12 years on subs...

Just a small correction - there are currently 99 operating plants

And there are currently 24 new ones either being built or in the planning stages - 4 should come online in the very near future

And the parts come from China, as well as many other countries - and there is nothing secret about their construction - other than the security and cybersecurity details

Wow That's so cool!! I have always had a strange fascination with Nuclear power. I've always wanted to visit a nuclear power plant. Maybe this is a stupid question, but do power plants offer tours to the public? Can you just drive up to one and ask for a tour?

I would have a serious nerdgasm seeing the inner workings of a power plant up close.

Unfortunately after 9/11 they don't do public tours however, they usually have visitor centers that are outside the plant where you can see simulations and pictures that offer a glimpse inside

The problem with today's power plants is that they are old and obsolete. What is needed is something like this : https://www.scientificamerican.com/a...ation-nuclear/

Yes that is what I figured. Simulators are ok but something about looking right into or right at the core would be cool. Scary as hell for me, but cool anyway. I don't know why. Color me geek.

oh great it is STILL no problem?
so let´s build a few 100 more of them because with EVERY SINGLE ONE the risk becomes a bit higher. if you take all cars from the street and just let 1 drive the risk to have an accident is near zero.

It took the USA like 40 years to defeat the tobacco lobby...The energy lobby is going to get its way untill the sky turns brown...Too much $$$ on the line and the old men in charge will not live to see what happens...

and trump will double that up - maybe some, who did not help him in the elections, will get less but others who wasn´t on that list will show up there.

THIS IS WHERE YOU MONEY GOES - and this is your problem - and with trump that problem will become MUCH bigger as it already is.

also, what prolly not everyone knows here that coal power plants are not THAT bad as individual house heating from coal...modern coal power plants are - kind of - green...
yet of course - not as green as nuclear energy or renewable energy (which is the best, but not so efficient like nuclear).

its bullshit about not eating plants because of chernobyl 4000 km away. maybe in Prypec and 100 km around and maybe for the first months.

sounds like tommy doesnt know that much about it.

among thousands of nuclear power plants there were like 3 quite serious accidents, while old coal power plants (and new ones too..) polluted air like thousands times more

everyone seems to be in agreement apart from only a couple that this move of Trump´s bad, so why´s he been allowed to do it without being impeached?

It´s an obvious mistake to the planet we live on!

For once, he could have actually got many of us on his side, suggesting solar, wind or more water turbines at sea, creating more jobs! But no, DirtyDon takes a fucking easy road to please his minions...

why is this guy still in presidency?

I stand corrected, which boat were you on? I was on the USS Tautog ssn639. I was a sonar Tech, but as you know, everyone had to know how to throw the switch in engineering. Did you ever meet Rickover? He took a little ride on our boat, interesting person.

I keep searching for "Impeach Trump" every day. I find some good news, and unfortunately I find bad news too. One can only hope.

I still remember them telling us all that, was mind boggling. That even cigarettes have radiation. Always wore my badge above my balls! LMAO

Slept in the torpedo room my first cruise, next to the dangerous ordinance and next to the reactor. When I thought about it, I couldn't sleep. Couple days after that, I slept just fine.
I was 18 when I got to my boat, 21 when I left. Later got a bunk forward above the diesel gen room

Yeah, lets put a lot of money into solar like Obama did and watch it go no where?

Yep!

Google owns this one. I passed it in Nevada on the way to Vegas it's massive and generates electricity at night!

World's Largest Solar Plant, Partly Owned By Google, Opens In Nevada, Roasts Birds And Angers Environmental Group

I have solar panels & batteries I charge here at home, never going back. It doesn't cover all my electric consumption but paid for itself already.

the most radioactive trash (10 % ? ) is stored in special silos under surface...no other way. i think that its still better than fracking and oil extraction :-)
the less radioactive waste is reused or utilized succesfully

I would like to know more about the energy output and economics of a setup like this. This one reflects sunlight to a boiler to generate steam, turn generators and provide electricity. But regular electric panels convert sunlight to electricity directly. Are they somehow less efficient? If they could use the direct sunlight-to-electricity panels they would save all those birds.

solar is great, yet is not so efficient like nuclear. for economic and physics reasons.

good for small houses with low energy consume, not for the rest

I was on the USS Los Angeles (SSN-688)..and yes being the first in class we had too many visitors - Jimmy Carter (he used to be a nuke engineer), Rickover and too many others to count - they all had their eccentricies
I was the Engineering Watch Supv so basically I had to be able to both startup and shutdown the plant

Yeah - although the rad levels we were dealing with are miniscule compared to normal activities people get day to day just living their lives...we just had to be able to prove how much they received for legal basis

I think the best comparison I ever heard made was when Rickover was before Congress testifying on nuclear safety, he made the true statement that he had picked up more radiation flying to Wash DC in one flight, then normal nuclear operators get in a year operating a plant

it currently only accounts for about 3 percent of electricity generation (Spain)

your input was brilliant as always to the topic....

Dead birds are a big negative. Evidently the output the way they're doing it now must be most efficient compared to energy directly from the panels? The article simplifies how enegy is really created, it's not just heating up water to steam. I saw a special on this on Discovery channel and it's a special heavy thick solution that's almost a solid that's heated up and it becomes more fluid and superheats water to steam, this is how it's able to still generate electricity through the night, the thick solution retains massive heat like a thermos

That's true, but Solar isn't the only renewable energy source for Spain. Found this: Spain Closes In on 50 Percent Renewable Power Generation

I *LOVE* How fast renewable energy seems to be growing now. I really hope it keeps going.

if Germany can run on renewable energy only (currently it's up to 80+% on good days), everybody else can too

fuck nuclear and fuck coal, technically we're way past that

i always wonder what makes people so keen on destroying the planet, must be a lack of long term vison - or simply a lack of intelligence

On birds flying into it, maybe, but what effects on people are you talking about?

I began the topic dick for brains, I don´t need to continue adding any more input, however, i´m very proud to live in Spain & be British, both countries seem to be trying harder to give more back to this planet than the idiot coal waste dumping Trump

Let´s get this right, any small percent is more than none! Going backwards is just brilliant. Now maybe you can give more input than just pulling negativity on my positive world input as always

exactly, like most of the EU.

Britain´s wind turbines seem to be growing both in the sea & on land, as does Spain, they use a lot of gas
