FBI admits it fudged forensic hair matches in nearly all criminal trials for decades

Quote:
WASHINGTON ? The Justice Department and FBI have formally acknowledged that nearly every examiner in an elite FBI forensic unit gave flawed testimony in almost all trials in which they offered evidence against criminal defendants over more than a two-decade period before 2000.

Of 28 examiners with the FBI Laboratory?s microscopic hair comparison unit, 26 overstated forensic matches in ways that favoured prosecutors in more than 95 per cent of the 268 trials reviewed so far, according to the National Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers (NACDL) and the Innocence Project, which are assisting the government with the country?s largest post-conviction review of questioned forensic evidence.

The cases include those of 32 defendants sentenced to death. Of those, 14 have been executed or died in prison, the groups said under an agreement with the government to release results after the review of the first 200 convictions.

What kind of person could falsify evidence, in effect lying, knowing the result could put an innocent person behind bars.

As already said (not by me, but quoted by me): US legal system's function is not to determine someone being guilty or innocent; its function is to sentence people brought into the system. Basically polices are the judges, as they bring the people into the system. It is like with Gestapo; if they get you, it is bye, bye. Getting sentence is just a matter of methods.

The sort that would go into law enforcement. The sort with such twisted "morals" that they see fucking over individuals is not a big deal.

In short the sort of person who could work for the most corrupt organization the world has ever known - the government of the United States of America.

What kind of justice system worries more about getting a conviction vs finding out if you are innocent or guilty? When you have a system which worries more about a DA's conviction rate than if justice is served.. well it opens up all kinds of ethical issues..
