CaptainHowdy's Spine-Chilling Halloween Movie List

Most choices may seem obvious but I encourage you to go and watch any of these with a "fresh pair of eyes" or else go and watch one of those contemporary horror movies that resemble a colonoscopy footage. Enjoy!

Pet Sematary (1989)
One of my dearest movies from the VHS rental frenzy of the late 80's. Stephen King's unhinged eyes staring straight into death.

The Exorcist III (1990)
The first "Exorcist" would be just too easy to list. This terryfing movie exposed me to my own sense of mortality at a very tender age so it ranks really high for me.

Poltergeist (1982)
The horror movie everybody think they saw but few actually did. Now go watch it.

Suspiria (1977)
Terror elevated to the dignity of art.

Eden Lake (2008)
Somewhere between "Funny Games" and "Cabin Fever" (and much closer to "Straw Dogs") there's this brutal british horror gem. The plausibility of it all makes this movie terrifying.

Under The Skin (2014)
The mother of all horrors: being human.

Scenes from a Marriage (1977)
What's scarier than married life? A film filled with demons (more than in the whole "Night Of The Demons" trilogy).

I really liked Under the Skin. Even without the Scarlet Johansson full frontal nudity, it was worth watching. (although that certainly made it better)

He actually directed it, right?? I was about to add the "Whoever directed it" line to the Poltergeist description since many think that it was Steven Spielberg the actual director. My respects to your uncle.

The "Phantasm" movies are awesome indeed.

That is a true GFY revelation! "Spontaneous Combustion" is one of my favorites and that became one of the greatest fears in my life.

As soon as my best friend's son is allowed to watch horror movies I'll be giving him one of my copies of "Texas Chainsaw Massacre" as a gift.

I will recommend the original Halloween.

I remember going to the premier on Halloween of 1979 or so. It was a very scary movie and the soundtrack made it even better.

Donald Pleasance made a career of being in spooky movies. He was awesome.

He also did Salem's Lot (the tv movie) back in the day. I remember that was extremely well done.

He did Lifeforce - if memory serves - a naked alien chick walked around a lot.

Rife with so many editing flaws it is not even funny. Same with the first sequel. But it doesn't stop me from watching them every year. And every time I see something new that makes absolutely no sense.

Don't forget The Descent.

There's been a few recent horror movies I've seen which are pretty good:
Conjuring 2
The Babadook
Oculus
Train to Busan ( insane movie)
It Follows
