This thread is form March when BTC was $50

Franck's advice was:

Buy.
As much as you can.

Anyone that took his advice and sold today would have made 2200%

For example if someone took his advice that day and bought for $1000 he could sell it today for $23,000

I usually cash out halfway up the hill and regret it a week later. This time I was drip selling over a couple of weeks, then yesterday ended up selling off my remaining BTC. Right near the peak! Yeah!

I usually only sell mined coins, but if we're in for another bounce then I might buy back in and hold for a change. To da moooonnnn

My old business partner alway said there is no such thing as a bad profit. Profit taking is smart ... if you can deal with the tax consequences.

And if Paypal hadn't cut off Bitcoin and I'd managed to buy $100 worth @$2 each back in 2011, I'd have $350k now...

Nah, who am I kidding, I wouldn't have held 50 BTC for 6 years.

Exactly what I have thought once I saw this thread from 2013...
Wonder did Dirty F listened to his own advice and how much did he bought (and kept so far)?

I think he once mentioned he only bought 1, but who knows.

Thing is that most people that bought at $50 wouldn't have kept it until now. Like when it went up to say $400 they already thought it was a great return and cashed out.

But his advice was very spot on, he mentioned to hold it long term like 5 years. Probably not many people have followed that advice though.

People buying today at $6750 might cash out at $8000 or $10,000 thinking they made a great return, while maybe 5 years from now it's $50,000

do you really believe in that ? what about other cryptos ?

Do you know that bitcoin - even more like a gold - dont have any value at all per se - you can't eat it, drink it, live in it, drive it or get cured with it...
Its based only on faith of the people and of course - limited supply that will never exceeed said limit...

this question/argument always comes up, when it went from $0 to $50, from $50 to $400, when it went to $1000, when it went to $2500, when it went to $5000, when it went to $6750 (probably $7K today)

The way I see it, even if Bitcoin doesn't become the primary cryptocurrency it will still continue to grow for years just because people will keep investing in it because they think it's the safest investment. Right now less than 0.1% of the population have invested in Bitcoin, many want to but don't really understand/know how to but slowly but surely more and more people are investing especially with all the media attention. And this will continue to happen in the months and years to follow, so just imagine how much more the price will go up when 0.2% of the people invested in bitcoin, or 0.5%... Eventually it might be a 'pyramid' that will crash, but right now it is still the very early days so there is still a lot of money to be made. I wouldn't borrow money and put it Bitcoin, but if you have some money that you want to invest in a high risk investment it's still a very safe bet. Short term there might be some corrections and big drops, but long term I think it will keep rising for at least a couple of years.

Frank made out well, he deserved it.

Funny to see the "it's too laters" or the "i'd sell all now (at $100-200)", these are the people who refuse to learn.

You'd be surprised at how simple it is if you just give it a chance. If you ever need help setting up a wallet let me know I can guide you.

One thing to keep in mind is you are your own bank, there are no insurances if you mistakenly lose your wallet (there are ways of backing up), or sending to wrong addresses (you must be correct while sending/receiving), for those kind of luxuries you need to pay the fee of using 3rd party (banks: fees, trust, permission, etc) and this is what Bitcoin is aimed at avoiding, no 3rd party which means we need to be more responsible.

Like it or hate, this is happening.

From the git-go I have never stopped buying Bitcoin. I said it before, dollar cost averaging. Well, it's the future now, you can still buy in. You don't have to buy a whole Bitcoin, just buy what you can. Or not. See you in 5 years.

Why? It's not like you had any money to invest, then or now. 100$-200$? You would've sold after doubling or tripling your money, or lost it in mt gox, or lost it in another exchange, or lost your private keys

So what is it you wish you had paid attention to exactly? Or are you humble bragging about just being around long enough to when bitcoin was cheaper but didn't actually do anything about it?

lots of monday morning quarterbacking going on in this thread...

why is it that if someone guesses right once with something extremely risky they are geniuses but if someone who is right most of the time but gets a few long shots wrong along the way they are dumb asses? Could it be neither is true?

I always liked franck because he was brutally honest, despite me not agreeing with him all the time I still respected it. but I think he would even admit that he was pretty fortunate on this one. Nobody could have predicted the explosion of this and plenty more lost fortunes buying and selling at the wrong times, some even in this thread who just lie about their success with it.

Some of us who invested early and dumped early with only intention of making USD profit, call it dumb ass or lazy to learn

Other people, like a handful of friends of mine learned what the technology really does, and is, and they always said selling out was terrible, way back in 2014 or 2016. They took the time to learn about what it is. They are smarter and/or less lazy. They accumulated for years and never sold even til today. They became to realize it's true value as the purest form of money:

Those who deny BTC right now, are also either a.) less smart, b.) more lazy, or c.) want to maintain status quo (which is unfair, corrupt, and extremely fcked up imo - checkout fed injecting $300bn this week)

For those who loved Bitcoin a few days ago at $10,000, you should be loading up here at $8,600-$8,700.

Exactly, that's why I bump this thread every few years. Every time people say "I should have..." or "... too late...".

Yet every time it went up another XXX%

It's still not too late

You don't have to buy whole coin. Buy fraction. Even better if you have services to sell and charge bitcoin for it. I collected mine as side business. Who knew it would go up that high.

Food for thought:

The price of Bitcoin has historically crashed, then gradually risen again to levels exceeding the previous high.

This has happened about 4 or 5 times now. We're currently at a record high, after the previous crash near the end of 2017.

If you don't need to realise profit immediately, think twice before panic selling everything the next time it looks like it's on the way down.

(Past performance is not an indication of future returns, of course.)
