I finally broke down and bought a

...new computer. It has Windows 7 64 bit OS and at this point I can't say that I am overly impressed with it as being better than XP Pro 32 bit OS...but maybe with time I may change my mind.

You'll only see the difference between 64 and 32 if you're doing really heavy stuff...like 3d animation. But overall 7 is way better than XP. It's the most stable operating system I've ever seen -- Mac or PC.

Using windows 8 consumer preview, was like buying a new computer. The thing boots up and is ready to go before router has connected to internet.

Windows 8 and Classic Shell is a good combination.

Turn this on:

start > all programs > accessories > system tools > pathfinder

Runs a lot smoother.
