Titanic 3D - worth revisiting

The wife and I just got back from seeing Titanic 3D. Despite the sappy chick-flick love story and the somewhat nauseating androngynous twink DeCaprio...the 3D treatment really added an amazing 'you-are-there' feeling to it on the big screen.

I went in with low expectations - and was very much surprised at the new depth added to the scenes (especially during the epic sinking).

Highly recommended - especially on the eve of the 100th anniversary of the Titanic's demise. Despite my arse growing numb at the 3-hour mark, it was well worth the experience.

Best of all - the overall 3D effect with the glasses doesn't make the movie seem dim and dark (as if watching through sunglasses). Its bright and crisp from start to finish with a lot of details really popping nicely.

Thanks for the review..! I was wondering whether to check it out or not. The movie is great of course, but I figured that since it was a 2D to 3D conversion (and not shot in 3D) that it would be lame, and since 3D movies tend to be dark I thought it would be extra bad. Good to see a positive review of the techno. I'll probably go check it out this week.

I HATED the non 3d version of the movie... the gf wants to go to the 3d one so bad but I've flat out said no so far.

Anyone else gone and didn't find it to be horrible?

I watched the 2D version a few weeks ago before going to the 3D version last night, mostly to have a comparative basis on the improvements. Seeing it on the big screen in 3D was worth the time (I never saw the 2D in theatres when it first came out).

Spoiler alert - they don't.

Despite the $30m spent on 3D, the crow's nest lookout still doesn't have binoculars.

Sadly, Kate Winslet's titties don't benefit much from the 3D.

I started getting a headache near the end, figuring it was the weight of the glasses over my own prescip glasses.

Yeah, the script was somewhat weak...and the love story sappy - but I read a review somewhere that pointed out how the romance ploy served as a way for Cameron to have the main characters move seamlessly from the first-class areas of the ship to steerage...to tell the whole story, rather than abruptly go from one aspect to another without a segue. It made sense from a storytelling standpoint I guess.

It was also shrewd marketing strategy - it hauled in revenues from hopeless romantic/lovestruck female teens.

At the risk of being a bit cerebral - one could also argue that Titanic serves as a poignant, modern-day allegory between the "haves" and the "have-nots" in society, the decline of the middle-class and the growing one-percenters.

Titanic 3D, starring Kate Winslet and Leonardo DiCaprio, has entered the UK and Ireland box office chart in pole position.
