Well there's no doubt now.

It's harder to shoot porn today than it was back in the old days.

Because of the money.

Nope I'm not joking.

In today's porn market there are 2 ways to produce a product.

1. Super high end production values bordering on being an indie film (eg. Love 2015) or being considered "Art."

2. Super low end shit that's no better than a train wreck.

Considering my age and that my grand kid is determined to distribute on thumb drives I don't see producing anything of quality within the remainder of my life.

As for the morbidly obese women taking a shit... Tons and tons of people are curious about how someone that can't reach their ass manages to wipe it. All it's got to be is 20 mins per scene with 3 scenes on a thumb drive package. There won't even be any sex in it.

I bet if an American flag was stuck up on the wall behind the toilet and french subtitles were put on the video it would sell an additional 1,200 pieces in France.

There is no doubt that money can be made with micro niche and, hard to shoot content. How can you get a cc merchant for things like obese women pooping? I shouldn't laugh but, I can only imagine how difficult that would be to shoot. Where do you find these obese women and, how do you know when can poo? I want to send you a trophy if you can pull this off...or maybe a crate of scented candles. ;-)

1. I've been making smut since the 60s' - My bank knows exactly what I do and they love me.

2. I'm actually selling physical merchandise - The Internet is a black hole when it comes to content and it consumes it faster than it can be produced. Furthermore content can't be protected and the people that profit the most from it are the pirates themselves and they earning far more money than the producer.

I use the Internet as a point of contact for customer service and as a method to rinse punters into buying my product.

Sounds like you have a good thing going. Yes, I am disgusted with the pirates who make more off of my content than I do!! I have hard a hard time finding visa merchants who will accept ClubDom content. I deal with ccbill, for the ease of affiliate programs and, C4S. Going direct has been difficult. We were actually told that we could not show a man having sex with a blow up sheep because it is bestiality. ClubDom's whippings have had to be majorly toned down. It is awesome that you have found a way to get around the nonsense that I have to put up with on line. If we have any cross over markets, maybe I could give you a plug to my membership bases. We do all aspects of FemDom, Cuckolding and, humiliation. We must refrain from g/s, heavy welts and, blow up sheep. My membership base is geared toward attractive women, pretty much of all ages. There isn't a cross over for obese women but, if you've got some smut you think would cross over, hit me up.

The last time I sold smut using a subscription model I got taken to the cleaners by the webdesigner. In addition to the money he also stole 2 years worth of productions.

Never again...

We're transitioning from DVDs to thumb drive value packages. We've also got the porn memorabilia sales that are going strong for the 4 year.

I honestly don't give a damn what's in the video. If it makes money I love it and if it doesn't I hate it.

I've been peddling smut to the European-Arabs since the 90s and I've had a smut deal into Algeria since 2013. As for billing I've been with RBC since the 70s.

I make the occasional contact online and from time-to-time I get some decent information about how to solve a problem or confront a trend. (eg: I've found a thumb drive supplier and I'm buying bitcoins because of GFY) But there's more than one way to skin a cat and while far too many people in the jizz biz keep doing the same thing while bitching about dwindling profits in a market saturated with free smut... I've chosen to find distribution into different markets.

Now can shoot not super high end, if understand that for today, content is no longer the end product, and content and distribution is now a constant interconnected process.
Production became social. Communicating with the public and responding to their feedback became part of the production. If we admit that the film is not an author's statement, but is such dialogue with the public.

People on webcams are quite successful in earning money on streamcast. But this does not mean that the old content with the editing has died. Things that had catchy then, work and now. just search for these things is a joint activity together with your customers and dialogue with their is an important part of the content now.

This old thread, but yes.

Yes. Porn is free now. And very boring now. Only reason to open a porn site is if you have too much moneys to launder.

Of course, now a lot of free porn. Therefore, need to accustom your customers to a dialogue with you by producing content at their request. If there is such a dialogue, then your customers would come to your site for updates, and will not search it on the network. Why would he do this, if he knows where exactly there is fresh content from his favorite producer?

How can most people afford to have a conversation with what customers want, then produce enough of it and still make a profit?

Back in the old days, Suzie Randall produced one type of porn and those that liked it bought it. I produced another type of porn and those that liked it bought it. Today 99.5% of the people watching want free, so 99.5% choose free. That's 1 in every 200, so I'm very generous, we all know it's worse than that.

It is necessary to minimize the costs of maintaining the business, replacing all to platforms - hosting, distribution, billing, affiliate. As an excellent example patreon or manyvids.

Models communicate in social networks, write posts. They make stream on one service, and sell especially successful records with editing on other service and on the sly there decently begin to drip money.

As it was before will not be, and there is nothing bad in it. But most importantly, don't need to think that people are not willing to pay for porn. They are ready. Now people understand better what they need, so personal brands are sold more than faceless studios with faceless models. People are willing to pay to support someone they like. Of course, 1 in 200 will pay, but sorry, and 10 years ago the ratio of 1 to 1000 was considered quite good.
But social networks allow to have not 200 users, but 200 thousand. Mathematics is extrapolated directly to the scale.

Suzie Randall died? I saw a doc, Hot Models Wanted (?), where her daughter was struggling with the old formula. As much as I'm on your side Paul in not being a fan of "change"....it's not a one on one conversation....it's a twitter/facebook/etc. multi-conversation.
What Adultium said.

Anyway, the tide has turned culturally too.
+99% see "porn" as having no value.
You need to realize that MAYBE they are right!

Wrong thinking. The Internet makes it available to consumers (and possibly freeloaders).

True, but this doesn't mean that you can't fight back. Let your customers know that there is only 1 legal source for your content. Let them know that illegal distribution hurts the models. If you find your content somewhere else, make a huge stink about it to the industry, complain to their payment processor, DMCA them and their host. Yes it can be alot of work, but you can streamline this.

Just a suggestion.

I would argue these points too. (Of course, you know me...)

A super high-end production is a waste of money for any small company. It's just too much of a bet.

You don't need to spend alot of money on a shoot because few porn consumers really give a shit. Most consumers are in love/lust with the model. Everything else is secondary.

Of course, spend a little on things like cameras, lighting, makeup, locations, etc. And of course, make it sound good (most porn producers forget this step). A little coaching and a decent story / scenario is a nice plus.

To wrap it up: Be conservative on with your production budget, but spend where necessary, then promote, promote, promote.

First, that's disgusting.

Next, ok, I'm sure there's people who want to see that kind of thing. But ask yourself this question: How many of those people, are willing to PAY to see that? I think most people would be terrified to have search terms like that show up in their history. Imagine if they get caught buying it on their credit cards?

Yep, and the old days of brown paper bags and raincoats worked because there wasn't CCTV everywhere.

So damm, how do we get this shitty porn out to people anonymously?

Do you really think I haven't been down that road?

I changed the way I did business, where I distributed to and who I did business with. What I stopped doing what what everyone else was (is) doing and just focused on what needed to be for my situation.

The Internet has it's uses and I do use it for those things but "en total" it's shit. I also think that on some level you agree with me because you're not producing smut. Instead you're peddling software to people that have dreams about producing smut.

You missed my point by a mile.

What Adultium said.

Anyway, the tide has turned culturally too.
+99% see "porn" as having no value.
You need to realize that MAYBE they are right!
Imagine the porn internet getting all its ads banned. Then porn will have value again.

Do you really believe your content is that special people care about finding just yours?

Major porn companies convert 1-30,000 views off tubes. That's 29,999 getting off for free. Ad traffic is cheap as shit and the price proves that.

And there are 100,000s of videos on major Tubes that satisfy.

No offense Paul but you don't get this particular aspect of internet porn consumers.

For 20 years I've relied solely on my income is a pornographer to this day it's all that I do and I live a great life style. You could do it again too Paul I would help you if you want to.

Actually no, I'm not agreeing with you.

Paul Markham's original post says it's harder to shoot porn now. In your post located here you complain about super high-end production requirements as the only way to produce content.

I would argue that today it is easier than ever. Nudity and Porn is alot more acceptable than it was only a few years ago. The cost of good hardware has dropped like crazy. You can shoot high resolution photos and videos for a tenth of the cost as it was in 2008. You have all kinds of powerful editing tools at your fingertips now. Even better, you have instant distribution, instant access to marketing, instant ability to charge your customers for the content.

I used to, but I got bored and quite honestly was even a little uncomfortable with it. I sold that part of my business a long time ago to concentrate on the technology side of things because that is what I really like, allowed me to work from home and spare the commute, etc.

Sorry dude but I'm not going to hold your hand if you're having a bad day. What I will tell you though, is that you are absolutely surrounded by opportunity. You have the talent, the models, the hardware, software and the industry community *right in front of you*. Everyone else here is taking advantage of this except you.

PS I'm still waiting to meet up with you for some top shelf whiskey.

Cheers.

I've had good days and I've had bad days. Each and every single day you think you've found the solutions to your problem and the next week you find yourself going down a different road. When it's all said and done... It is what it is.

I'm retiring at the end of the month and my grand kid is taking over. Honestly I should have hung up my camera a very long time ago but I'm addicted to the game. "En Total" it's been a heck of a roller coaster ride and I'm already thinking about a writing book.

So let's see what we can about drinking some whiskey together after the snow melts.

Who do you sell to?

For 30 years we relied on our ability to find girls and shoot them. We then sold the content to publishers. We didn't need to open sites to sell it to members.

You missed my point.

It's harder because producers never needed access to all the things you now need as essential. the prices for content have dropped to the point where if a producer isn't working up to 3 times a week he's losing money. I could shoot one day a week and make good money.

Hi Paul...

You're right, but let's clarify. I am talking about the ability to SHOOT porn, as was a part of your OP.

NotInMyBackYard:
Question for you. I understand that you are retiring, but why is your grand kid "taking over"? Won't he just shoot his own content, style and niche? And wouldn't you want him do what he wants to anyway?

And yes sir, Whiskey soon.

It's easier to shoot porn as a hobbyist. But harder as a professional.

Maybe the tactics need to totally change. In the age of selfies I imagine most cuter models are satisfied with their mirror images.

Also, many are hip to the facial recognition AI problem and the permanence of having the images all over the internet.

Have you tried an "open call"? Maybe rent a nice hotel room downtown and advertise for models that way.

Or maybe recruit camgirls?

It is the opposite to this
"It's easier to sell today and harder to produce good work."

We found the thing that put them off was the fact that once it was on the free sites, every one of their friends and family could find out. It put off the new girls who didn't have time to get plastic boobs, piercing, tattoos, etc.

The preferred method of porn delivery is via a tube site. That affects peoples ability to shoot for a profit.

I would disagree. It's harder to shoot porn profitably. Whether you're shooting top end or amateur.

Which is very true for top end productions which cost $1,000s to produce.

That is an oxymoron.... Like an actress, she gets paid, so what is this BS "her friends may find out.." If thatbis so, then she should go to work at McDonald's or for higher wages go hooking, but do not be an adult model.

Nice suggestions, but a lot easier is ( or so it seems) to put them on the bus from Kiev...working on that now for our next shoot in May.
