the south is fucking freezing. thanks to global warming

all my years, i never heard of a polar vortex. & that polar vortex is freezing the crap out of the USA because warming is shearing the vortex.

the nonsense is just so tired.

It's a plot by the US Govt. to steal the cold from the Winter Games in Sochi.

Meanwhile in Australia they had to stop play at the Australian Open due to extreme temperatures that reached above 110 degrees.

But it is cold here so that must mean something.

The last 30 years were the the warmest on record since 1850 with each decade warmer than the previous.

There is no doubt that right now the earth is in a warming trend. The only question is whether or not our actions are affecting it.

Oil and Coal are the biggest contributors to global warming. We will never get rid of of these completely but there is absolutely no reason to use Coal for electricity anymore. Nuclear much cheaper, much more advanced, and much much safer than coal.

I'll take hotter summers and colder winters over what is awaiting those in the path of Fukushima's radioactive waste.

People have a serious disconnect. You don't have to believe in "global warming" "global climate change" being man made or even happening at all to be a supporter of using less resources and having a cleaner planet. That is just commonsense. To those that believe it is happening how many carbon offsets have you bought off Al Gore so far? lol

Well, that's exactly right. The answer is no. The message should be "Save the humans." instead of "Save the planet."

exactly. which is why i'm so tired of the global warming hysteria. even it being the case carbon consumption is a contributing factor, Mankind is not capable of working together to solve it.

whatever changes we cause to the climate, humans (at least the fittest) will adapt.

Planet earth will be fine. It's the people and other forms of life on the planet now that we should be concerned about.

I think that when people say "Save the Planet", they mean save all life, and to save clean water, air and beauty, all of which is under attack by pollution.

Thats the thing Josh. Makind IS capable of working together to solve it, and for sure everyone wants a cleaner planet. The only thing stopping people are things like the Coal & oil industries and the lobbyists who push for less and less restrictions, and more and more tax credits that should go to green and renewable industries instead.

Are you sure that this is what you meant? You know that lots of people already have a hard time breathing, and that cancer and other illnesses caused by pollution are already very high.

Indeed. The problem isn't just that the hysteria is misleading, it's misguided.

Then the mantra/marketing message should reflect that. The message should be concise and to the point, else people get confused and the cause gets lost- Mother Nature/Planet Earth doesn't give a shit about trees, life, clean water, air or beauty. We do.

Given that the kyoto protocol is roundly rejected by the biggest polluters, i respectfully disagree. Good luck getting china & russia to think like progressives.

Plus, its simply cheaper to pollute. & that creates incentives for govts/industries to cheat any international requirements to run cleaner.

Unfortunately I agree with you on all points.

Depending how you look at it though, you could say that it is more expensive to pollute. It seems cheaper because the actual costs of pollution are hidden or ignored. Taken at its very basics, colder winters means we need to spend more to heat our homes, and hotter summers means we have to spend more to cool them. Medical and insurance costs rise, and general standard of living decreases which is itself a cost.

Sad..

Go study runaway climate and see if you think the same. I don't think humans will adapt to 150 degree temperatures and no water, which scientists have calculated what would happen if all fossil fuels on the planet were burned. This does not even take into account the trillions of tonnes of CO2 and methane that would be released as the polar caps melted.

Mass extinction has already happened 5 different times on this planet, only a fool would think it won't happen again.

Many country's population have given up trying to do something about global warming, by recycling, reducing emissions and paying extra for a product that does less to harm the atmosphere. Then they look at China, India and USA and what little effort they do, and have ever done. When it comes to talks between nations it is these three that spoil it for the rest every time for the past 40 years. Now, with things really taking effect, icecaps melting, seas levels rising, stronger hurricanes, warmer and colder temperatures and strange weather hitting America, China engulfed in smog and the rest of the world taking the brunt, you'd expect some of those countries to wake up like the rest of the world has, but no, they haven't. It's a bit like the last two world wars, it takes some countries a little longer to smell the coffee and join in (hint). Oh well, maybe by the middle of the century they will, China will eventually realise they have been eating rhino toenails thinking it was an aphrodisiac (once rhinos are extinct within the next decade or two) and Japan will stop hunting whales after they admit they are mammals. Could happen, by the end of the century?

Yes, very interesting. And at the very end of it we find this:

Quote:
The last time Earth was free of ice was more than 34 million years ago, in the Eocene epoch. Alligators swam in Arctic swamps. But the planet slowly cooled as carbon dioxide rained from the air and was locked up in seafloor sediments. Continental ice sheets formed first in Antarctica, but over the past few million years they?ve repeatedly surged across northern continents too. We?re living in a warm interglacial period?20,000 years ago Chicago, New York, and London were buried under ice.
Geologically speaking the little bit of so-called warming we have now is neither unprecedented nor significant. It has been much warmer in the geologic past and life thrived on the planet. It has even been warmer in this current interglacial and humanity thrived. It takes a special kind of detachment from reality to make the case that cold is preferable to warm and that we have any control over it either way.

Didn't read the whole thread, but I'm sure somebody said there's no global warming because it's winter time and it's cold -- which shows why you should never try to argue with a climate change denier. You'd have better luck trying to make a dog understand calculus.

Didn't read the whole thread, but I'm sure somebody said there's no global warming because it's winter time and it's cold -- which shows why you should never try to argue with a climate change denier. You'd have better luck trying to make a dog understand calculus.
I'm sure somebody said we're all going to die because it's summertime somewhere and it's hot -- which shows why you should never try to reason with a chicken little alarmist. It's like trying make a dog understand that it doesn't have to be afraid of a little bit of thunder.

There is no such thing as "global warming". The reality is it's getting warmer because we are coming out of an ice age. It's gonna get warmer no matter what.

There is no doubt that right now the earth is in a warming trend. The only question is whether or not our actions are affecting it.

It doesn't count if it's not MERICA!

The problem...is overpopulation. Tech allows 5 billion more people to exist than pre-oil economies. No other renewable energy source can come close to replacing oil. So good luck getting the climate under control.

overpopulation has been the driving force of our progress as a civilization for at least the last 100 000 years or so, so that isn't exactly the problem.

Thanks for strengthening my point with your denial of scientific facts. That's what's great about you people...you do all the work disproving your side of the argument.

Yes. I own a 2013 2SS RS Camaro with a V8 Engine. I have actually owned muscle cars my whole life (11 so far). This was the point of my post earlier in this thread. Buying this car was a mistake. I love fast cars, but not small cars. I also love high tech. Knowing what I know now, I should have purchased an electric car, and my favourite electric car is the Tesla Model S. I can't wait to sell my Camaro and buy a Tesla. I never want to be a part of the problem ever again.

Unfortunately that is usually the case.

A good start though is to remind the deniers that "Weather" and "Climate" are 2 different things.

Yes I think it will drive prices up at least. I forget where I read it, but California having a water shortage. At this time of year there should be alot more percepitation but for some reason it's super dry, so Cali farmers have a serious crop shortage.

I don't know about that... I would instead say that too many people use too much energy inefficiently.
